Motorhomes on the beach
« on: April 08, 2024, 14:55. »
In Gran Alacant at the moment and I’m completely stunned by the amount of motorhomes along the beach road. They seem to be parked in every available space. Does anyone know if this will continue through the summer? Where on earth will the thousands of cars all park if the spaces are all taken by motorhomes??!!

We've noticed that the hundreds of motor homes parked on the seafront seem to go elsewhere in the summer. I've often wondered ehst they do with toilet waste though and where do they fill up with water ?

That same point is on my mind as some of the particularly large homes dont seem to move for months. They aren't storing up their grey water / toilet waste. So what do they do ?  Perhaps there is someone on here who actually knows. I genuinely dont know how the local council tolerate it. They (the council) are red hot on licencing and permits for just about everything else in most walks of life but not this.

I notice that the project down at Arenals (opposite the Milla cafe on the island) has stalled with no work taking place for years now. That was supposed to be an official place on multi levels where motor homes could be parked up

Some of those mega motorhomes have very large tanks for fresh, grey and black. Even my modest 6.4m motorhome has 100L fresh and grey. I can go 3-4 days before needing to find a service point. Camping Bahia where I was staying for a few days last month also do a "splash & dash" service. There is also another place a bit further along the Elche road.

As for "where will all the cars park?" one could equally ask the same question for motorhomes. Look at the number of car parks with height barriers. Do 'they' want us to park on the street instead? I admit there are some "long-term squatters" who extract the urine but please don't tar us all with the same brush.
As an aside, I noticed that my former next door neighbour's place on Novamar 3 is on the market.

At the end of last year there were various articles in the free press about the coast road. The problem is that the road has 3 councils that have diferent interests.Alicante/elche/santa pola. There were proposals to close it exept for locals ,close it to all but cyclists and foot fall. The common ground they ageed on was to restrict parking.Hence the concrete blocks and wooden posts with ropes. The wooden posts have a lump of concrete attached to them as some of them have been attempted to be removed as have the concrete blocks in some areas. Not many vans down there at the moment.

I've read that the started motor home park at Los Arenales wont go ahead, instead there are plans for a massive Apartment Hotel with six swimming pools and underground parking.

Overall, the provision of motorhome aires is decidedly sparse around the Alicante area. It is a bit better further north but not as comprehensive a France and Germany. My motorhome aire guide book has 170 pages for both France and Germany but a mere 24 for Spain. If the authorities don't want 'wild camping' then the solution is better aire provision. Motorhomes are self-contained and don't need all the 'bells and whistles' of a full-fat site. A firm flat area, fresh water and somewhere to dump grey and black waste. It doesn't require major investment and can be provided at €5 - €10 per night if not free, as many in France are.
