Didn't we just guess that there was no chance at all that they would choose any of the properties?

GA has always suffered from price fluctuations in the property market, part is due to wider economic reasons but it also has a constant source of expats going suddenly home and deceased estates where in both instances the seller wants a quick sale, so the normal sellers who are looking to upgrade or move area are competing with the more desperate at any price seller. You then have programs like this who give people the illusion that bargains abound and if someone asks €150 offer 80. The presenter always says the agent states the price is negotiable so why list it higher makes no sense.

Agree Wilson.

I would be absolutely furious if my agent was telling Place in the Sun that the people could probably get my property well below the asking price.
When we were selling in GA my agent told me NOT to take anything less. We wouldn't have done so anyway but it was very reassuring to hear her say that.

You make a great point Wilson. Demand in GA is certainly not outstripping supply - there are plenty of properties for sale and if you do a search on properties of a similar style from the same builder you can quickly tell the degrees of separation to sell.

In my opinion, there has not been much (if any) price inflation since 2008. I have, in my mind, kept my personal valuation the same since then despite doing a full remodeling of its interior, bathrooms and double glazing etc. All I have done is try to keep on top of our property as anyone would do with their home.

The demographic in the area has changed massively since we bought in 2005 and as you point out Wilson a fair bereavements and need to be back in the UK perhaps due to health reasons has fuelled the low value "fire sale" that occasionally happens

Good discussion

We had our property valued in the summer.  The estate agents came round and said to put the property up for €330.000 but to expect to get €300,000. So are Place In The Sun are dealing with estate agents that tell them what they tell their sellers?

Funnily enough Derek it was one of the first films I saw growing up on my council estate up north England, haggling is part of life rich tapestry where I come from, the subject of place in the sun is more about the expectation that everything can be had for a bargain, the illusion that sellers are desperate. The best results on that show is where the buyers in collusion with the presenter and the estate agent (who incidentally represents the vendor) is told to stick the cheeky offer, the best sale of any items is where both buyer and seller are happy with the transaction, no need to shaft people, maybe it’s different in your part of the world.

Yes Wilson I also have fond memories of that film. I remember being sacked after 28.5 years in a very well paid job and playing the song "always look on the bright side of life" over and over again on my long drive home. I did and some 30 years later still making a crust.

I do think that most people price a bit higher when selling a house expecting to be knocked down a bit to their bottom line. I was born and raised in London after my family moved there to find work. A tough area just after the war but being street wise has helped me survive.
