Always have a break in the autumn. Last year was a week in Rome.  Fantastic as I knew it would be.  (Been before, wife hadn't).  Look at flights from Alicante & decide where you'd like to go.
We've enjoyed lots of trips, & would recommend, in particular, Krakow.
Life is problematic if you try to out-manouver the next source of trouble.  We are now resolved to just go where we want, & forget what might go wrong.  Life is also short, so do it now!!!!!

reason for this post:
once you live here, you often forget about the superb flights you have to anywhere (just take skyscanner.es, fill in ALC on the left and on the right Cualquier ..., take for dates the whole month instead of specific dates).

Biggest growing airline is again Norwegian - very friendly personnel, free wifi on board when flying, etc. etc. and prices which put Ryanair to shame.

I have done flying around for years, and it's a simple way to see Europe ...
More ideas please   :-)
