I see various travel companies, Qatar airlines, Saga cruises yesterday have stated that vaccinations certificate will be required to travel and others are expected to follow suit. Not sure what that will mean for younger travelers who are back of queue for vaccinations

Whilst agreeing in principle that a vaccination certificate or passport would be a good thing the practicalities of devising one and having it accepted are massively against.

Any certificate that can be easily reproduced can be quickly forged, and any certificate that could confound fraudsters will be expensive to produce. The Equality Act has a legal concept of "protected characteristics" so young people, pregnant women, religious objectors, mental impairment etc could claim discrimination. The law would have to be changed to allow discrimination against non vaccinated people - unlikely to happen.

Also a vaccine doesn't stop you getting or passing on Covid; it only protects you against the worst of the effects.

Vaccinations and infections leading to herd immunity seems the only way out; but as the rest of the world requires vaccination at some point to clear the reservoir of hosts, there's a long way to go yet.

Slightly different I know but on the last cruise we went on it was a requirement to have had a yellow fever jab. This was authenticated at check-in and the boarding cards of those who hadn't had it were disabled. At one of the ports (possible Panama) they couldn't leave the ship.

All my mum got was a card stating the date she had had the vaccine and an indicator to say if it was the first or second jab.

As previously stated it would be easily forged, its not embossed or watermarked in any way

... and to add to the disparity Mrs BL's mum also has had it done - no card issued just a leaflet explaining what she has had done

My guess is that all this is looged against your NHS number and at some point in the future IF we need to prove vaccination we could get a formal document referenced against your history.

Does the UK issue vaccine certificates at the moment?

I agree with you Wilson - this late, slow and (from what I have read) bureaucratic approach in Spain isn't going to get the job done quickly enough to prevent a serious escalation in cases. There hopes to catch everyone on the fringes of society is going to slow the process down. Plus they have a very vaccine skeptic population which wont help

Worrying

I see a potential problem in Spain’s vaccination program, they quite rightly want to vaccinate everyone by the end of the year including all the homeless and the millions of people who apparently reside in Spain illegally. Currently in the uk it’s a race to vaccinate as many as possible before any more new strains take off, with Spain’s longer term plan I’m not quite sure if it will have the desired effect.

Dave believe me that should the system require this data then it will be a mere couple of key strokes to drop your vaccination history which is linked to your nhs number which you have to give to get your jab,which can be linked to your passport which if you renewed is now linked to your driving license which is linked to your dwp record which is linked to hmrc the list goes on. And if you’ve travelled to the USA then your fingerprints and retinal scans are also included. This is fact in the western world for many years collecting of information which if used properly can be a good thing.

6TH UPDATE OF THE COVID19 RESTRICTIONS GUIDE (VALENCIAN COMMUNITY)
We publish the sixth update of this guide, which include the new regulations issued yesterday by the Generalitat Valenciana, which took effect throughout the entire Valencian Community at 00:00 on Thursday 21st of January 2021.
The duration of these measures is initially scheduled for 14 days, until the 3rd of February 2021. The most important changes are:
1. Total closure of bars, restaurants and cafeterias, except for home delivery or takeaway services, as well as catering services in hospitals and clinics, hotel establishments and other essentials services.
2. Closing of shops at 18:00, except food establishments, pharmacies and other establishments that are considered essential.
3. Closure of all sports facilities (sports centres, gyms, etc.), except for professional athletes.
4. Closing of bingo halls, casinos, arcades...
5. The perimeter confinement of the Valencian Community continues, as well as the curfew from 22:00 until 6:00.
6. The confinement of 29 municipalities in the Valencian Community, 3 of them the province of Alicante (Alcoy, Castalla and Polop), is NO LONGER IN FORCE.

Reports in el pais yesterday saying vaccinations roll out dogged by allegations of queue jumping, bad organization etc, lots of mayors, wives, families of health workers getting jab before elderly!! Who would have thought it in Spain !

Spain Won’t Welcome Tourists Until ‘The End Of The Summer’

The Prime Minister of Spain delivered another blow to the tourism industry by declaring that he doesn’t expect to welcome tourists to Spanish shores until nearly all of the population has been vaccinated. Speaking at the 113th meeting of the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) held in Madrid on Wednesday, January 20, Mr Sanchez said: “Only mass vaccination will open the way to the normality we want.”

The Prime Minister went on to say that once 70 per cent of Spain’s population had been vaccinated, which he expects to happen by the end of the 2021 summer season, the country would “progressively” prepare to welcome international tourists.

Pointing out that Spain is leading in the vaccine rollout, being ninth in the world and one of the first in Europe, Mr Sanchez added that our country will be “the beacon of the resurrection of tourism in all the world”  and that the action the tourism industry takes now “will draw the tourism of the future.”

Looks like my prediction of Mrs H and i not being able to pack our cases until October wasn't too far off the mark.

It’s very easy for governments across the world to impose these restrictions, but I doubt there’ll be very many politicians taking a drop of income because of them.

The present Spanish administration is hanging on by a thread at present and once cases reduce I would be surprised if there’s not a push to get rid of the PM and/or his party
