Just seen announcement on n332 that all hospitality closing Thursday, shops shutting 6pm except food, takeaways allowed and looking to start curfew 8pm. Doesn’t look good at present and hospitality business hit again

I have just looked at the Valencia COVID site

https://icvgva.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/3a3115ad642a4516b0928f21e395b32d

I'm shocked:

Alicante 1395 / 100,000
Elche - 1492 / 100,000

Thats pretty desperate

It's far higher than that in my opinion. In the first and second waves I didn't know anyone who had it. I didn't even know anyone who knew someone else. This time is completely different. It started with the gossip - but frankly from good sources - that various local characters were walking around supermarkets when knowingly positive, drinking in bars even. Next our (Spanish) friends uncles and aunts started getting sick.... friends of friends if you like, but then it was their parents, the parents of my sons school classmates, and lastly our own relatives here in Spain. It's out of the box now folks. Herd immunity or bust I think. Last I heard they weren't even running PCR tests anymore. They just tell you to stay at home and call them if you can't breath.

Still, on the bright side I hear that vaccinated folks in the UK are already booking flights.

One of my old friends in the area posted on Facebook the other day of his experience of catching Covid and the feelings and emotions he went through as he thought that his days were numbered, a harrowing read from a very fit man many years younger than me. I know of two old friends in the area in hospital in Elche at the moment.....as gaveteran says it is completely differrent this time.
Don't worry gaveteran I dont have any flights booked, as i said a couple of weeks ago I dont think our suitcases will be at the best getting packed for any type of holiday until October time.

Stay safe everyone

John

I was reading that if you contract the virus and survive you in general get good immunity, so in the UK with infections running at approximately 50k a day and vaccinations at 230k a day we could find that the virus will burn itself out quicker than expected . I think booking for flights to Spain is huge act of faith for the future, I think if permitted I'll be driving to GA this year if and when mainland Europe opens up.

We haven’t been since last January, next flights are scheduled for June which I’m slightly optimistic about as hopefully cases will be well reduced by April

Just received a telephone call from the NHS here in the UK. Vaccination scheduled for next Tuesday.

Unbelievable task that they have but so well organised.

Light at the far end of the tunnel. Hopefully the Spanish health service also has its back side in gear as this appears to be the only route out of the current pandemic (returning to normality).

I see a potential problem in Spain’s vaccination program, they quite rightly want to vaccinate everyone by the end of the year including all the homeless and the millions of people who apparently reside in Spain illegally. Currently in the uk it’s a race to vaccinate as many as possible before any more new strains take off, with Spain’s longer term plan I’m not quite sure if it will have the desired effect.

Hi Wilson

It is so good (news) that they care about those less fortunate and are going to offer the life saving vaccine to all. Well done Spain.

The UK approach is driven by a calculator. Vaccinate those at most risk of serious illness from the virus reduces the demand for hospital beds and reduces the death rate. Therefore by 15th February (3 weeks later) the UK would have prevented over 95% of the deaths caused by the virus. Well done Boris and his team. Quite how we deal with our homeless and others I don't know but I certainly hope they are not excluded.

I see various travel companies, Qatar airlines, Saga cruises yesterday have stated that vaccinations certificate will be required to travel and others are expected to follow suit. Not sure what that will mean for younger travelers who are back of queue for vaccinations
