Has it ever gone off proper in GA ?
« on: April 06, 2020, 14:21. »
Just thinking if it has ever gone off in a bar in GA  ? In all the 15 years we have been over i have never seen any bother. The only time it very nearly turned ugly was in Big Als 3 years ago when a lad behind the bar took offence to my Son being in the British Army and a serving member of the Parachute Regiment. Blonde haired lad. Was very lucky he didn't get stoved in to be honest. Luckily my daughter in law is a sensible girl and defused the situation.

Get a few Southerners who get giddy on the Carabassi strip when Chelsea are on the box. Being Leeds it always makes for heated banter.

I can only recall 2 incidents, the first coincidentally was at Big Als where a large obnoxious woman who worked there launched into a tirade against an unhappy customer who wasn’t impressed with there breakfast, it went pear shaped when the customer decided quite rightly to give it straight back, a little bloke from  behind the bar waded in. The other was at the Pub where a knuckle dragged in a Man Utd shirt was singing football terrace songs which comprised of mostly 4 letter words, some might find it acceptable in a ground but this was 2 in the afternoon in masa square, somebody asked him to shut up which he declined with ensuing pushing and shoving with more choice language, sadly the guy who owns the pub could have not kept serving him and instead of cocking a def un.

Good post mate. I can see it going off in the Gormet in the height of summer. People getting wound up over lack of tables. Pammy doing his best to keep everybody calm but people smoking while ordering on a table next to people who are just tucking into their starters is a recipe for disaster.

The big woman and little bloke sound familiar. Very strange folk.

I heard on the news that 200,000 uk nationals had left Spain in last couple of weeks, if correct and other non Spanish nationals had also returned to there home country, then areas like GA must be very quiet.

Many of our neighbours have returned to the UK and Ireland mainly because they are not resident in Spain and worried about medications. Also heard some have gone back as claiming benefits and might be difficult to continue claiming from Spain (what I heard but anecdotal until proven - doubt many would admit it).

Those of you with a long memory may remember an interesting evening in the summer of 2003. A couple of local lads took exception to one of the bar staff upstairs in the Carabassi. There was 'a bit of banter ' and they left.
The next night about 20 local youths (mainly from al eltet) returned. They had a little rampage around and threatened a few 'foreigners'. The lad they were looking for was not there, so they ran out of steam somewhat. However, someone had rung the police. They were there in a shot, lined up the youths against the wall opposite removed the scarves covering their faces gave them 'very strong advice' as only the Garda could.
Some of the lads returned the next night to apologise. We bought them a drink and all was well.

Some might remember an advertising campaign probably 5 years ago, amongst other means there was a poster on advertising panels with a coloured target on it, the poster was paid for by the uk DWP, it stated there were 80,000 people in Spain falsely claiming uk benefits and they were hunting them out, with a phone number to shop your neighbour. Personally as a uk taxpayer I say flush em out then squeeze them till they squeak. My opinion of course

We've enjoyed Gran Alacant every summer for 11 years and have only witnessed aggro once. Barloco about 8 years ago when some drunken herbert decided to start on a random customer, showing some considerable restraint the staff did their best to get the knuckle dragging oaf out of the bar but he launched a tirade of abuse at Roger whereupon one of the barmen (Jimmy I think) gave him a straightener. He walked off like a Thunderbird puppet to a round of applause from the gathered audience.
