Picked up car from Centauro today at the airport, when it came to the excess insurance they said I had to have it at €270 for two weeks, I said no got my own annual policy so bank the €1150 on my my card, girl said no have to have their insurance, I pointed out that on the booking confirmation it said you can just bank €1150, even showed the paragraph on the paperwork, still no, at this point I lost my temper and shouted you can refund my money and I'll go elsewhere and won't be moving until that happens, a ten minute playing around on the computer and suddenly was given car keys and agreement. No more said. Stand your ground people.

Interesting centauro are my regular I hire 10-12 cars a year and have done for nearly 20 years . Never have I had any issues with them , yes they try to sell insurance but I just say no never had any hard selling , never had any alleged damage etc , which I have had with firefly ,  I do always take before and after photos and video the car around with my phone .  Took a car back today and fuel credit and email confirming no issues was waiting for me as soon as I got home.If these boys are now playing up as well I will have to be more vigilant, but I’m not ever paying there outrageous insurance charges when I can get an annual policy for £40

Had same problem with Goldcar. Found a small dent on this car got it added to the damage schedule. Previous car was a firefly but had no problems with them,it all seems random.

I think the whole car rental industry is criminal around the world, and has been for many years. I recall 25 years ago at Orlando a big scam with customers and unrecorded damage its the type of industry. In 20 years in GA ive probably hired over 120 cars and been stung 4 times, but they've tried to have me another 20 sometimes for minor scratches others missing parcel shelves and aerials. Should you really be wasting your holiday taking pictures and videos and getting the contract updated with "new" damage, i dont think so. The recent investigation showed individual commission to the desk people as being the main problem with being able to charge your card after you had returned the car and left the country. The Internet is littered with stories of unscrupulous tactics and i think its luck of the draw on the day you land.
