Court summons
« on: August 09, 2019, 19:12. »
A few years back I got my credit cards stolen by the good old distraction technique in mercadona car park here in GA and I reported it to the police. Yesterday we emptied our mail box and I had a letter from the courts about collecting documents. Went to Santa Pola this morning to collect and turns out they have caught someone in possession of my credit cards and I have been summons’s to attend court as a witness January next year, and if I don’t attend I will be fined up to 5000€. So just wondering if anyone on here as had any dealings with the courts over here. As first of all Im not fluent in Spanish so a translator will be needed and also I now have to book flights to attend.

Don’t get me wrong I’m happy they have caught the scum that do this type of thing.

Just an update.

I had to go to court today. The person they charged never showed up, I still had to give a statement to the judge and answer questions from both sides. Apparently the judge will still pass sentence in her absence.

I did get in touch with Citizen Advice paid the €10 euros fee to ask a question and to be honest in my case they were absolutely useless. Found I was going around in circles with them, they ended up passing my details on to a solicitor, that emailed me all about buying a property. In the end I contacted a company who posted some information on going to courts in Spain. They gave me all the info I needed without trying to sell me their services. Just asked me to review them on Facebook So if anyone ever has to go to court as a witness the courts provide you with a free translator, I never need a lawyer like some told me I would.
So all in all it went well. And now I can enjoy the rest of the time out here.

Great result, though sorry about the wasted airfare!
For those of us not on Facebook, please could you give details of the company that advised you so well.
