Latest Goldcar rip off
« on: July 10, 2019, 14:10. »
I am convinced Goldcar have a department in their customer dis-service facility who's sole purpose is to think of new and innovative ways to screw the customer they never fail to impress me with their lies, deviousness, and deceit.
Last Sunday night my son and his wife arrived very late at Alicante airport and went to the Goldcar desk to pick up their pre-paid car after completing the paperwork they were told by the guy on the desk ( clearly on commission) that they would have to pay an extra €30 because the car was brand new !!.
My son told them he wanted the car he had paid for and not necessarily a new car the guy refused to give him a car unless he paid it was now 10-30pm my son was tired and wanted to get to Gran Alacant asap but stood his ground ,in the end they compromised on €15 .
We have since checked Goldcars terms and conditions and can't find any reference to paying extra for new cars.
BE AWARE !!!!

You gotta hand it to them - that’s innovative as you say. Sooner rather than later people will wise up and not use them

That’s a new one I only use centauro now been with others but either car is old a knackered or they try to find a reason to charge you on return if you don’t take out extra insurance. Haven’t used goldcar in many years . I used firefly once last year never again . Rent with them at your peril , I ended up taking them to the European ombudsman and won. Very poor firm

Interesting indeed. I hired from Record this time around, class CC (I think) Ford Focus type of car, arrived to find they had none left so got a (free) upgrade to an Opel Crossland which was brand new, just 393km on the clock. The guy said I would be the first to have it (probably true, 393 is pretty low for a hire, possibly delivery and/or positioning mileage), anyway there was no suggestion of an extra charge because the car was new. Have to say, never heard of that one before.

I have used goldcar the last 4 times and had no issues with extra charges, always wait to get confirmed no issues when drop off car.
They did give me one with about 30 scratches etc on last time as only car they had unless I wanted an upgrade for 10 euros per day which I declined.

As ive previously posted in my opinion Gold car are a criminal organisation, they have been investigated and found guilty by the EU of underhand and illegal practices. They were taken over by Europcar who assured an end to these practices, but
sadly it continues. The desk people earn there salary by commission on up sales, so a family with little kids late at night are easy prey for these parasites of society.
The good news with my rental from them when 28 euros of charges added later, was i complained to card company visa who fair play contacted goldcar and goldcars bank, and guess what visa agreed with me and gave me all the money back as a fraudulent transaction not just the 28 euro.

Despite all the negative press on here they must be doing something right. I've just returned from Spain and have seen so many cars with a 'G' sticker on the rear window.

If you want negative press relating to Goldcar do a google search, voted by which as worst car rental company, goldcar fined 2.5 million recently by competition authority for miss selling, under investigation by EU, the list is endless. Sadly the car rental search engines still give goldcar in there results and they can be cheap, hence all the G stickers in mercadona car park. When my complaint started i contacted Do You Spain who brokered the rental to ask why they still pushed goldcar sales despite the horrendous complaints and guess what no answer from DYS, theyre all sharks in a smelly pool.

I always carefully remove the hire car sticker and replace it at the end.
I also check the inside of the vehicle for damage and a parcel shelf.

That’s 2 I definitely won’t be using again firefly or gold car . Spoke to someone the other day who told me the latest trick is to remove the aerials and then if you don’t notice charge you for it on return . Gotta be vigilant and not fall for the traps . We’ve had parcel shelves hubcaps spare wheels jacks tools etc and now aerials . You couldn’t make it up any other firm would be killed by the adverse reviews but these go from strength to strength

Ironically i recall Record car hire were well known 15 years ago for the aerial and parcel shelf missing scam, a friend hired with Centauro recently at ALC arrived late at night and being a regular hirer did his inspection and photos before leaving, on arrival back at drop off a guy came out to sign car back and according to friend homed in too quickly on some damage to rear number plate area, fortunately it was not to be as friend had image timed and dated. Friend stated employee was deflated that this one got away. I believe they're all sharks at ALC,and because of the numerous forums on the blanca people are getting wise and less trusting.

We’ve used Lara cars for the last two years. Perfect service , friendly staff, no queuing. We had a very new low mileage corsa for 15 days . £500 with a full tank of petrol.
They meet you at arrivals take you to their ‘office’ the back of a car in the carpark. Sign the paper work and that’s it. You drop it off in the car park and leave the keys locked in the boot.
We wouldn’t go back to using the other car hire companies now.
