Can anyone recommend a good bank in Gran Alacant preferably without commission fees? Been with Banco Sabadell for 15 years and looking to change as commission fees keep rising, and is the switching process straight forward?

We found Sabadell excellent, we dont pay any fees but that is for a resident account, maybe any non resident account would charge for admin?

Sabadell charge 140 euros pa for non resident accounts but get payments included in that via online banking. a resident account is free but you have to pay a minimum of 800 euros pm into it.

Haven't heard of any that's free without a large monthly deposit. Someone said that it shouldn't matter what bank it is as long as it's in EU. Some have had success with getting water / electricity payed from foreign accounts but it's a big resistance from the company's to accept it.

Anyone looked at Bankia internet only account.
I cannot find anything about a minimum monthly deposit but then as it's in Spanish I may well have missed something.
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has looked into this one.

Annette I also have looked at Bankia and from what I can see their Cuenta-on account doesn’t seem to charge commission but I am not sure if that only is relevant if you are resident. I will make in branch enquiries when over in GA in a couple of weeks.

I have Internet banking with Bankia after BMN was swallowed up by them at the beginning of 2018, and they never even  told me!.
I started the online banking as the queues in there after takeover were horrendous, and I insisted they sorted out the paperwork at the time, which they did. As with all things Spanish there were reams of paperwork with two different pins but I had no problem setting it up.
It’s fairly easy to use and has an English version which is not bad.
I pay money in via TransferWise and the dd’s come out without a hitch.
On looking at my account they are charging €15 a quarter which was what I was paying with BMN.
Hope this helps.

As they say in all the best celebrity circles "MeToo"

Sabadells charges are getting ridiculous especially when in the UK we are used to free banking. I will be enquiring at Bankia.

Has anyone tried to set up DD with the Transferwise debit card account. I haven't got one as the amount you can withdraw monthly isn't enough but if anyone has explored it as an alternative to a bank I would be pleased to hear of it.

I've not tried a direct debit with TransferWise I just put enough money into my account to pay any bills coming in. I have got the TransferWise debit card which I top up with euros and works well at some atm's, with a good exchange rate.
