Unfortunately in Spain (unless someone knows otherwise) there is no equivalent of free banking for current accounts that are in credit. In truth I think the UK banks would like to be rid of it but the first mover will commit commercial suicide.

Sabadell and the other banks do accounts that have no charges but there are conditions such as €700 / month has to be paid in etc - doesn't suit me though so I stand in the long queue as infrequently as possible and scream every quarter when the charges are applied. The internet bank app is very good for avoiding the queue.

Hi everyone. Been a lurker here for a year whilst living in Madrid. We are moving to Gran Vista in October - can't wait. Anyway, back to topic - if you're looking for a no fee bank, as I was last year, take a look at Bankia. No minimum to put in each month, no fees and faultless in my experience. Keep your account open for at least 3 months, and they'll also give you a 50 euro Amazon gift card. If you're wondering, I am not an employee or connected in any way. I'm still with Sabadell as well, but you do need to put 700 a month in to avoid fees. Look forward to contributing more in a couple of months  :)

Hi there Mick, I'm with Bankia after they swallowed up BMN earlier this year, do you need to put 700 into Bankia every month to avoid fees?.

As far as I can make out on the Bankia website (which IMHO is appalling) the only "free account" needs a monthly lump sum which I think is €700 but that's not altogether clear.
Looks like I'm stuck with Sabadell.

Ive found Sabadell pretty good, the online banking works well as does online chat. As stated already the branch offers a long queue whatever time of day. That said the fees are 30pence a day so good value in context.

Hi mr Wilson. Do you mean 30e a month. Not 30p a day, but still no post on what Santander charges are
