Altomar 2 meeting
« on: July 29, 2018, 12:18. »
The Altomar 2 meeting yesterday was packed, mainly with Spanish residents upset at the painting fees.  Said painting fees were duly voted to be cancelled and gestifinc also said that extra painting fees taken would be duly ‘refunded’ by way of suspending urb fee payments for a period of time.  Anyone requiring further information about this should contact gestifinc.

The entire board of directors were also voted out, the gestifinc mannagement were voted in, although with all the noise I had initially thought they were not and have posted a rapid apology for anyone who had seen the unamended post.

They asked for an English speaking representative to take on the post of Vice President and no one at the meeting including myself wanted to take on the role.  After being asked by some of the neighbours both Spanish and English, I decided that if someone did not volunteer there and then that there would be no English speaking representation at all and accepted their nomination so I am the Vice President.  The first meeting of the new board will not be held until later  as there is a transition period and a lot of things to learn about how it all works.

Wow!  Things certainly livened up then after we left about 1pm, when they were still on Point 1!

Surprised about Gestifinc as think they have done a pretty good job at rectifying past mistakes, but well done Hazel on your appointment as VP, am sure you will be a superb asset!

Huge apologies, I have misunderstood, the loudest crowd were shouting for the administration out and it was so noisy I have misunderstood the end vote, the admin were voted to stay in, well thats a good start and i should have double checked first. Once again, apologies.

So the painting of the properties is not going ahead now is that right ? But we won’t get a refund they just won’t charge us community fees if we have paid upfront. What a fiasco

Thanks for the update Hazel. We have been happy with Gestifinc as they collected more money than other Administrators we have had, we are pleased that the old President and his Comittee have gone, it's well past time for a change, good luck with your Vice Presidentship. We wonder now what will happen about the houses that have never been painted, they look awful, including the old Presidents. !

Hi NickiH
Some people actually voted to leave it in place in the coffers of the admin fund in order to have a better balance for incidentals and if they had won the cote none of it would have come back but the ones that voted to get their money back were more numerous.
If you are not getting charged for your community fees surely that means that when it isnt coming out that is effectively a repayment.  It was gestifincs desire to do it this way so you could always put your case to them.

Hazel,

Firstly, many thanks from me as well for volunteering to take on the role of VP and the very best of luck with it. Having been on numerous committees over the years, I know what a thankless task it can often be but also at times a rewarding one if you are able to make a difference. Although I am not a resident in GA (yet!) I am prepared to assist you in any way I can so please contact me if you wish.

Secondly, as regards the "refund" of painting fees, there will be a lot of people who haven't paid these fees in protest so suspending future payments is not the answer to that. What is needed from the administration is first of all a recalculation of the invoices for the past quarters that included the extra, now defunct, costs followed by/accompanied with a statement of account showing what, if anything, is still due or, for those who have paid already, what their credit balance is. This will enable those who have withheld in protest to get up to date and those who are in credit to know exactly where they stand. The emphasis should be on pouring oil on what have been clearly troubled waters for some time so I do hope that Gestifinc do not go down the route of asking the protesters to pay everything up front now as that is only going to further inflame the situation. Likewise, I do think that refunding people who have overpaid would be the proper thing to do, then we can all get back to the normal pay as you go instalment basis. If there is a need to further fuel the coffers, so to speak, this should be done in the normal way of presenting the annual budget and setting the community fees accordingly or by extraordinary general meeting to approve a properly thought out plan. Anything else such as trying to hold on to the painting fees as a general reserve is likely to just cause more aggravation.

Just my 2d worth,

Michael.
