Keeping cool?
« on: August 21, 2017, 12:50. »
With the heat being so intense at the moment and so hot and humid at night especially,we had the ceiling fans in the bedroom replaced with the " aircraft blade type". Do they circulate the air? Yes, are they quiet enough to have on in the middle of the night? definitely not. We cannot have aircon in the bedrooms because living in downstairs apartment on Altomar 2 would mean the large fan being situated in the galleria keeping everyone around awake at night. Does anyone have or know of a "quiet" airtower style blower which is suitable and also has a remote control.

Thanks
Graham

we had ceiling fans fitted 12 years ago cos it was the ''norm'' They were a waste of time i can only get any benifit if i stand under a chair directly under them, found it was difficult to sleep in this position unless i dropped off !  I now use a desk fan @ the foot of the bed on a 2 hour timer it's not very noisy on the low speed and am usally asleep well before the timer clicks off.

If you are standing under a chair I reckon that's why you aren't feeling the fan try coming out from under the chair lol

Many lower houses on Altomar 2 have the unit fitted on the outside wall, take a stroll around and you will see. I believe it is not allowed to have the unit in the galleria because of the noise disturbance to surrounding properties .

Gary recommended and fitted a new ceiling fan for me recently, not cheap though but its extremely good and virtually silent comes with remote control. I would say much quieter than aircon unit in same room.

We Have just had the fan that Victor is describing fitted in the bedroom.

3 speed, with a double light and incredibly quiet.

A bit on the expensive side but now worth every cent.

Hi Dave,
I'm afraid not at the moment I'm back in Sunny Scunny.

We bought it from Euronics at the GA Centre.

It has 5 blades with a central lamp for 2 bulbs.

The lamp is about 10"/12" diameter and comes with remote control.

Im not back in GA until Sunday so will give make model then, weve had 4 fans fitted overall and its very much a case of you get what you pay for, in my opinion any unit below a 100 euro wont be brilliant the same as aircon units quality counts. Also installation matters having the fan balanced correctly,, you will always hear a badly balanced fan. Pablo at euronics has a range from 60 euro to well over 200, Leroy Merlin and Aki also have a big range, fitting is about 30 euro.

Hello Bramleylad, like Victor says you get what you pay for.

It was well over 200 euros and we paid a further 30 euros for Euronics electrical man to install and balance it.

Well worth it.
