Sounds weird.  Where do you buy your plants?  The guy in the nursery just on the Elche road is very helpful (you need Spanish though).  If pink is what you want, he can advise, & since half the market traders fill their vans up there, his prices are IMHO the best around.

Possibly the acidity/or alkalinity  of the soil. Need to check what your plants like.

Suspect it may have something to do with the queen of hearts in Alice in wonderland

We're painting the roses red

Looking at the leaves I'd say they are French marigolds, in Spain!

Definitely French Marigolds as opposed to African Marigolds. I thought at first we may be talking about ´Lantanas Banderas´ which are the Lantanas with the colours of the Spanish flag, hence ¨Banderas¨. All said and done, beautiful flowers. As with all plants they can be cross-bred from hybrids to produce many varieties of colours, shapes and sizes. Duncan S is right, the problem is with the acidity/alkalinity of the soil. Go to one of the local Garden Centres and ask for advice about local soil conditions. The one in El Altet is very good.

Thanks for all the replies, yes I thought it was to do with the acidity of the soil, and I have been around all the garden centres asking about this, but all I get is the usual shrug of the shoulders, I have been told that I should buy some lime powder to sprinkle around the plants, but do you think that I can find that anywhere ... no of course not, so if anybody finds any lime powder on their travels, please let me know. Many thanks all.

Hi Gemstone ,

You can buy hydrated lime at any builders yard ,Theres one in El Altet turn right at traffic lights and its on your left

You really need to be sure of your soil ph level first it should be about 7 or you could be making it worse.  Adding lime makes it sweet adding peat base soil makes it sour/acid.

I found that most plants in our garden lack magnesium though.

Good luck
