Can anyone tell me the best way to upgrade my electricity supply, new smart meters fitted are causing tripping out in meter box, been advised to upgrade to 5.5kw. Has anyone done this online via Ibderola website?

Also interested in experiences with this. Have heard reports of people paying hundreds of euros to get a thirty minute check by a spark to complete the upgrade paperwork.

We had this done in March. You need to use a registered Spanish electrician and get from them a Bolletin. This is then sent to Iberdrola. You are correct regards the cost, 250 euro for about 15 mins work. However I was advised to do it this way as the cost Iberdrola will charge you if they find out you haven't done it this way will be more, and as they are fitting smart meters there may be a need to call them in.

Hi Ian, I've never seen my meter..........the only way I knew was from my electric bill, it had a mid month meter reading and the readings then kicked off at zero.

One neighbour got a nasty shock, got a closing bill of over a 1200 Euros.........turns out their supply was running through some one elses meter........they got off lightly at 1200 Euros.........full time residents for 10 years........they said they could never understand why their bills were so much lower than everyone elses!!

Regards all

John

Puerto Marino had there smart meters installed around easter time, ive noticed that billing is now monthly instead of bi monthly with payments for unoccupied property with zero usage of 24 euros, not bad work if you can get it. In relation to upgrades im curious as to what people are running that trips the standard system.
They dont like it up em !

We are on Altomar II now with smart meters. Some people had their electricity upgraded (illegally) but their bill stated the lower kws. When the men fitted the smart meters they used the kws from the bills, so that is why the meters are tripping, these people are now having to pay for a legal upgrades, or use lower wattage items.

Mine is opp Maxcoop on 3.2h and we have now had them installed they have to have whole area done by end of year . Be wary if you have an illegal upgrade as the new smart meter has a trip set at you contracted wattage and therefore will blow in the cupboard that you have no access to I know some people who this happened to they had to call out iberdrolla and paid a massive call out charge and back bill excesses for several years plus had to get their place checked at more cost .   The bill was into the thousands

If you have an illegal change it quick

Our urb was upgraded in Febuary by contractors working for the supplier, after performing the change the guy fitted a notice to the Mains boxes and posted one in each letter box indicating how to reset a trip actuation. You simple reset your Mains trip in your property to reset the smart meter all power back on no need for any call outs.

Yes they put that in our box as well but it only works if the trip in the house is the correct size and illegal  upgrades are not they can also tell that you are drawing more than you metered amount should let you so they will catch you

Barry, is the gentleman you recommend recognised by Iberdrola? It was my understanding it has to be a Spanish electrician.

Lower half of GA had power cut for over an hour tonight:  have Iberdrola been putting in illegal fuses?
