I'm surprised people are surprised that there's no sense of urgency in this job, look at the delays in relaying the roads in Ave Polonia and elsewhere.

I think someone forgot to tell the guys who demolished and rebuilt the Lidl or the guys building Fosters about slowly slowly.
I reckon slowly slowly went out of fashion before the peseta was relinquished

Hi John,

Bit of a difference between commercial projects like Lidl where money matters and public works projects like the bridge where the pace of things really isn't as fast, but as Barry says  - and I agree - the pace of life in Spain generally is much more relaxed which in my view is no bad thing, in fact I love it.

Hi Michael, I agree that for us in holiday mode slowly slowly is fast enough, but commercially I find the Spanish anything but slow slow......infact all the Spanish tradesmen we have used have put the expat "specialist" to shame

Compare it with the length of time it takes to do road works in the UK and it compares pretty favourably.

This is Spain.

There it is, like clockwork. As Tony points out, roadworks in the UK can be just as disorganised, if not worse. The state of the roads is certainly worse. In my opinion the weekend the builders took of from repairing that bridge has way less to do with their nationality and more to do with that international blight "bureaucracy"

I think some things in life are a given, any task carried out by councils, authorities etc are always delayed never completed on time and always way over budget irrespective of country. Look at roundabout with water feature remind me €150,000 and took forever, the market dont me started on. If Lidl or burger king were doing the bridge it would now be finished, look wonderful and have come in under budget.

Roads signs that were in  yellow around the bridge repairs have now been painted white. Is this a green light to go back to normal very soon.

BRIDGE REHABILITATION GRAN ALACANT

Santa Pola, June 2, 2016

From the Department of Infrastructure and Public Services, headed by Paco Soler, all citizens that Friday, June 3, will proceed throughout the morning at the opening of the entrances to the bridge of Gran Alacant Reportedly, allowing the flow of traffic.

Therefore the rehabilitation of the bridge will be terminated tomorrow, having been done in a shorter period of time initially planned for the achievement of these jobs (13 days in advance).

However, construction management reserves until 15 June (according to established work plan) to effect conditioning and environmental improvements and thus to end the work, but this work will not affect traffic.

I nominate Paco for an award for this one, and don't think the bridge should be opened until he's received it!
