GA MARKET

It's done, it's been debated Ian, it is what it is, it's up and it's trading, Miguel fulfilled his promise to to the residents of one street.
Last post from me on the subject as all we end up doing is repeating ourselves

Regards all

Absolutely John been debated "it is what it is" a waste of taxpayers money ....and yes debate over a long while ago ...that was until you claimed we I and others had been proved wrong !! When clearly we were not.
Luton
Hi Barry ....just because I do not reside there all the time doesn't mean I do not appreciate Gran Alacant ....don't think many people actually appreciate it more than myself to be honest as you well know.
But the fact that I do not live there shouldn't effect whether I'm permitted an opinion or allowed to advise on forums on a subject I know a great deal about (planning).
I raised many issues regarding this project and none were answered and mistakes were made...
Now we are left with .."it is as it is" which means the same thing whether I live there or not ...
NB hope you are wll Barry and enjoying your deserved retirement.

Well as "just holidaymakers" for the moment at least, i am delighted, i always use the little market whenever we are out to get my fruit and veg (the little supermarket up there is great and the staff are lovely but i have found the fruit and veg lacking in freshness at times), and we will be there in two weeks getting our fresh stuff, cooked chicken and whatever else takes our fancy without having to go to a different town, which with no car is essential for us.
I prefer it where it is and think it is much neater and better to go around, and without traffic dissecting it as it was a long sprawl right down the street where the dragon restaurant is.

Hi Hazel
On the subject of freshness this tends to be the norm these days. ..supermarkets have very strict perimeters as to how long a shelf life a product has ...markets often buy good stock  but at the latter end of its shelf life which should be reflected in the price but often isn't.

I had no complaints about the market being outside of my door for ten years..I loved it...
Equally, I have no problem with it up the hill....where there are more facility's ..toilets etc.
It's a fab market, we are lucky to have it..let's support it...in every way.

As a holidaymaker in GA for the last 12 years, i dont see any residents complaining about all the taxes and suma i pay. These same taxes being used to provide infastructure for residents. I dont hear complaints about my uk taxes paying pensikns, benefits and heating allowance either
They dont like it up em !

Hi luton, am not sure if youve misunderstood me there, i have actually found that the little supermarket, which i do find handy and, as i said, the staff lovely, is the one whose fruit and veg are not as fresh as they always should be, i agree, supermarkets are supposed to have quite strict perameters as regards freshness and sadly i have found that for this particular supermarket on the life resort, it isnt always the case and i tend to get my fruit and veg at the market when i am out and top up at the little supermarket, but maybe i ahve just been unlucky.

Hi Hazel ....yes read you wrong ; we tend to buy our fresh produce at Mercadona which we find very fresh as we do their fish....we used the market before it moved occasionally but mainly to keep the grandchildren happy with cheap tacky toys ...our basement is full of ray guns and swimming frogs that only swim upside down.

Agreed i have used the mercadonna and its very good, but a long way for me as we are up the top with the lovely views, wish we had a mercadonna up here too but for me its the little supermarket and  the market, from where i dont just buy fruit and veg but have bought handbags, a lovely white skirt, bread and pastries, olives and of course the cooked chickens, so am making fair use of it.

And of course we also have our fair share of tacky toys for the grandkids, they seem to favour the water shooters from the Chinese shops though, all in all i suppose i like to try and spread my purchases around, and share the love so to speak.  Looking forward to being there again very soon, and enjoying the sun and relaxation and friendliness that is gran alacant.
Hazel.

Our little flat is ground floor and overlooks the mountains which have stunning sunsets and we have seen fireworks displays in what we think must be elche from our garden. The views are amazing, we love it up here, we are near the new market and just walking around up here you get the most stunning views, we regularly go up to the lookout at the end of the road that leads to the lighthouse for a walk into sheer tranquility and a wonderful picnic spot, if we won the lottery i would love one of those houses overlooking the cliff but am more than happy with what we have. 😊

One thing I dont understand about the new market is why did they go to all the trouble to make a big car park only to let the market traders sell their goods on half of it including all the handicaped spaces ! Only two rows of parking are left, imagine what it will be like in summer. Sorry John, just having my morning moan.  ;D

Just a random question. How much does it cost to have a stall at the market?
is it just a 'turn up, pay your money and sell what you have' type of market......almost like a car boot sale, or is it more 'professional' than  that....for want of a better word.

Cheers

Davy !!!

Just go into the health centre. Straight through, down the stairs, and into the room on the far left.
The young lady in there will help you.
