Rubbish Disposal

What is the best i.e. 'green' or 'most public spirited' way to dispose of old chip pan oil?
And empty beer cans.

My local council in the UK gave guidance on disposal of a number of household products and the advice for cooking oil is to place it into a container (such as a used water bottle) and replace the cap before disposing in the general waste.  Beer cans should be placed in the recycle bin.

Yes, in the UK our local 'Household Rubbish Disposal Centre' will cope with almost anything we take (including separate tanks for old engine oil and vegetable oil) but we need somewhere to get rid of the oil here in GA.  We are reluctant to throw it into the general waste bin or to leave it at the side of the bins.

Hi Keith, try taking it up the recycle centre past the new market or ask Darby's chippie for further advice  ;D

Not sure if it is still there, but there was a specific oil recycling bin on the main road opposite the school.

Thanks for the replies.

We have just returned to the UK and didn't have time to explore the alternatives.  It seems a good idea to check the chip shop.  I will ask when we return to Spain.
