how much do bars take?
« on: July 28, 2015, 21:36. »
Posted this on the restaurant bit earlier in the week, was just thinking how much would a place like brothers take in a week high season? (any Ideas)
Its easy to see in restaurants that the are taking good money
(eg la paletta full every night 100e plus per table of 4. 10 tables =1000e)...

Yes must be so hard to earn out of season. Just had a look at the Brothers bar 45,000e for the lease then 800e a month rent, plus IVA/staff wages/bills ect. Got to be 2k+ month outly before you have earned a cent!

Its not necessarily what they take its what margins they're on, its alright taking a 1000 euros but if your costs are 900 euros then you haven't done brilliantly. The places that do best are the family business where all hours can be covered with minimal or no wages being paid ie the gallery indian restaurant,  and barloko.

Good point :)
Now I wonder what the margin on a pint of beer is!
The margin on food is massive.

I was recently told by a bar owner that Mahou beer costs between 140 and 170 a pint depending volumes, not much profit if selling at 2 euros a pint buf some charge well over 3 so good margin. We recently bought with our restaurant meal a bottle of cava for 9 euros,  we saw the exact same bottle in supermarket selling at 2,30 now thats a good margin.

over the last 4 years running any bar or restaurant has become harder and harder You are down to a 3 month summer now then 9 months of pain. The trouble with most bars is the prices over the last few years have gone down while the over heads have gone up.
