Car Hire
« on: July 02, 2015, 09:03. »
Was out in GA last month and had a hire car from Record, on the second day I checked the oil level, it was well below the minimum level on the dipstick so I filled it to the correct level, last year I had a car from Firefly and the dipstick was completely dry, it took approx. a third of a pint to get it to the bottom of the dipstick so the engine would have been near self destruct, there was no oil warning light on, Imagine roaring along the AP7 and the engine seizing, highly dangerous. So check oil levels to be safe. I bet somewhere in the fine print is a clause saying clients are responsible for oil levels. In the process of complaining to Record.

That's disturbing to hear. My previous new car never lost a drop of oil in Two years of motoring, new cars shouldn't lose oil.

Morning Kevin, on the first day of hiring I always check the fluids under the bonnet, in the past I have found very low oil levels, but not for a while. The Record cars do have a sticker on the engine cover showing date and mileage of the last service.

The second job is to put the aerial, with universal fittings that I keep onto the car.......why oh why do Record remove aerials
Although not something I'd use at home I always put a decent squirt of Fairy Liquid in the washer bottle to help remove the dead insects.
Hope all's well

Regards all

John

Hi John , Hope you are well , seems not many people bother checking oil and water its just a habit i have got into. Annoys me that companies are letting cars out like this .

Cheers Kevin

You'd expect that sort of stuff to be part of their routine prep before re-hiring them out.
