Electricity Spikes
« on: July 02, 2015, 10:08. »
Our new TV that we bought last September died while we were out in GA last month, I suspect it was killed by an electrical mains transient pulse, in the UK we frequently get these which are short duration high voltage pulses commonly they can be 3000 volts, despite filtering in TVs, computers and audio gear they can destroy components. In Spain the problem is a lot worse with all sorts of crap on the mains supply. I have bought a power distribution block with six sockets that incorporates filtering to stop or reduce these transients. Its a good idea to protect your equipment. A few years back we had our stereo on in GA and there was a huge flash of lightning and our stereo went pop never to work again, a filter block may well have saved it.
