Title: Damp
Post by: mushte on February 15, 2016, 18:22.
We were over in Dec and some friends of ours had mould on the bedroom ceilings
also behind the photo frames in the bedroom, we thought it was because they had no humidifers,
Our nieghbours then went over and they also had mould so we got some one to check ours
and we have the same. In the 12 years we have had the apartment we have not had this problem.
We do take all neccasary precautions we are on upper gran alacant in Altomar 2
Has anybody else had any problems, appreciate any feed back

2 main causes if it's not a gutter leaking or a roof failure etc .Darkness and lack of airflow are the shutters all down and Windows sealed all winter ? If so I suspect that is the culprit .

Yes, that has happened every winter to my dining room at Gran Vista. It is the room with the largest windows in the house. The amount of mold formation has been different from year to year.

Worth buying anti mould paint for the ceilings and keep the rooms regularly aired

Problem with humidifiers is that you ending up drying to remove the moisture from the whole of Spain

We had problems in the bedroom about 7 years ago and now we leave the windows open slightly (couple of mm) with the shutters bolted down and this seemed to have solved the problem.

Calsh is absolutely correct. If the property is empty this is the best option. If the property is occupied, them ensure the rooms (especially the bedrooms) are thoroughly aired in the morning, do not try and dry washing indoors and keep windows open if cooking on the hob.

Thanks Ash we will try that though still cannot understand why after 12 years
and always doing exactly the same thing it has happened this year.

If the problem is solved by allowing continuous airflow, my house will never suffer from damp. The MASA fitted windows on 3.2A are that badly fitted I can fly a kite in the living room with the shutters down on a windy day.

I like that about flying a kite. My Alba on 4.2b has never had mould, I put shutters down and then pull up slight so the small ventilator slots are open then crack Windows open , also got a ventilator in bottom of solarium door as well as galleria door, also helps my house is south facing.
