Thank you Barry it's always good to get updates
-
They are even working on Sunday so suppose they can afford overtime, double bubble
-
It will be great to see this up and running. It will be a big boost for Arenales and the square behind it

Would be a lot more fun if they blew it down with explosives.

Do not think they will demolish it but will just replace bits here and there where needed.

Hi Barry, from an article I read ;

There is a bit of a story about why they aren't fully demolishing it.
I think it's to do with the licence and permission to build there. They would never get planning permission to build it from scratch again - it would break all kind of "leys"
So as implied they will hold onto a small part of the structure and call it a "reform"

picture from today 11th February. Workman using sledgehammers to take down the inner walls, would think there was a better way in the 21st century. Picture shows the new going up and the old coming down

Is that fenced-off beach at the back of it? It's hard to tell with those small photos. I was under the impression that was illegal, but like I say, it's hard to tell. I suppose it's about as illegal as building anything on a beach, it's obviously a grey area!
Either way, a welcome improvement, and at this point it actually looks likely!
-
Would not be illegal with the amount of money they are investing, it is a company who already own a hotel in Benidorm
-
Probably would be illegal for a new-build. Like the building itself they are relying on the consents given to the old hotel.

Money has nothing to do with it. I have heard that Spain simply doesn't allow private beaches (quite right imho), but I can't recall where I heard it.
-
The company have a chain of successful hotels, including 4 in Benidorm.

http://www.spanishpropertyinsight.com/legal/ley-de-costas-coastal-law/ has a very clear, and fascinating, explanation of the coastal laws. Seems very clear about fencing off sandy areas. Bit no-no.
-
As you say, the laws are clear. But this is Spain...

Looks as if they´re completely demolishing the old hotel behind the screens and building new, utilising the old planning permission. Very Spanish!

or may be leaving a small piece of existing somewhere
-
From what I read they are leaving a couple of columns standing

anything to conform to regulations
-
Can't see how they can use of structure as it suffers from "Concrete Cancer" a defect that came to light years ago and causes crumbling of the concrete which is evident of the old building.
-
Don`t worry, there will be some highly qualified structural engineers involved with this build so it`s not going to collapse anytime soon.
-
Not to mention all the asbestos they have had to shift in a highly specialised contained manner

Just had a walk down there, not as much demolished as I thought there would be.......only the non structural walls seem to have gone so far.
Lovely clear day.
