On Sunday friends of ours who live in an Aurora in lower Monte y Mar, noticed dampness on the wall of their basement which hadn't been there earlier. Thank goodness they did!
Eventually the cause of the problem was traced to an empty property 7 houses up and behind (auroras are back to back formation). Water could be seen on the outside wall and the water supply was then turned off at the outside tap. The administrator was contacted and she telephoned the owners who, because they didn't have a key holder in the area, gave permission to have a locksmith break in.
It is not known how long the water had been leaking but it must have been for some time because 12 houses had varying degrees of flooding/dampness in the basements.
This is just a warning that it is a good idea to turn off your water supply at the outside tap when leaving your property for any length of time. Also to have a key holder (official or a friend/neighbour) in case of an emergency like this one.

Yes, thankfully, the owner of the house with the leak was insured.
The assessors from his company have been around to the affected properties and they will arrange for repairs/redecoration works to be carried out.
