A chap with a clipboard and an ID lanyard has been around to our house while I was out. He told my wife he was from Iberdrola, and could offer us a 10% discount for having been here 10 years, even though we've been here for only eight. He said he'd come back tomorrow.
It smells like a geriatric haddock to me - we've been here long enough to suspect a scam when we hear one. What is he after?

Maybe not Mark, I think there was a thread on here a while back about this, or maybe I saw it on a different forum, think it was legit but others may have better info

Interstingly non of these are as cheap as a deal I signed up for with them two years ago, but thats a whole different story...........apparantly I signed up for it when one of their sales people visited the house............we wernt in Spain at the time and I didnt sign a thing..........but hey Im not complaining!!

Yes there seems to be a 10% discount available which you can sign up for online, but I'm a bit wary of signing anything provided by a cold caller - heard too many horror stories!

Update - it does seem to be legit, I was asked to fill in an Iberdrola form and show my NIE certificate, no bank details were asked for and there was a follow-up call from Iberdrola to confirm the 10% discount. I understand more Spanish than I can speak, and the phone conversation between the chap with the clipboard and Iberdrola sounded straightforward and above board.
They seem to be doing the rounds of properties in lower Monte y Mar, so expect a knock on your door.

I signed up last year. Not sure if. Am getting a better deal or not !! But he was legit..
Unlike the guy who called a few weeks ago when my family were there asking for 30 euros to pay for a locksmith ...or he couldn't get into his house.
He soon left when they said they would walk round to his house and pay the locksmith themselves !!!

Last year we had a visit from a cold caller from Iberdrola who showed us paper work which stated that our contract was due to expire at the end of the month. This was true but had we not had been over at the time the tariff would have just carried on. He offered us the opportunity to change tariff and receive a 10% discount which we did, but when I checked subsequent bills we were in fact paying more on this tariff. From what I could make out, it seemed to me that if you lived there all the time then it could work out a cheaper alternative, but for someone like us who only come out a couple of times a year then it was definitely dearer. If I remember correctly it was something to do with it being cheaper electricity but the monthly standing charge was a lot dearer. We ended up on our next visit to Spain, going to the Iberdrola office in Santa Pola and asking to go back to our original tariff which they immediately arranged.
