A press release to our magazine today, confirms that the PP Party have lost control at Santa Pola Town Hall.
The Mayor has also been replaced.
Many changes afoot
-
Thank you, I had been wondering about the election outcome.
-
Santa Pola now has eleven Councillors, as far as I am aware Gran Alacant has none! This will be a big set-back for us living here. So if we have an issue we wish to investigate it means a trip to Santa Pola!!! and if you don't speak Spanish an interpreter will be necessary? Can anyone throw any light on the situation?
-
At the moment this seems to be the case.
Had coffee with Loreto this morning.
Lots been going on.
-
& how many GA residents bothered to vote?
-

It is Spain!!!
I can never understand why councils/NHS etc in the UK waste tax payers money on translating documents and employing translators

Whilst I agree with you about the speaking Spanish issue, people had become used to being able to speak with Loreta....
By the way, the post wasn't for me as I speak fluent Spanish!!

After the shambles of the new Market and other projects in GA was a GA councillor beneficial?

Popular Party (PP) have lost control of Santa Pola Town Hall after the 5 opposition parties make a political pact forming the majority.
The outcome of the local elections on Sunday 24th May 2015 meant that the PP were unable to secure an absolute majority gaining nine councillors fallling short of 2 councillors.
PP´s Mayor Miguel Zaragoza has also been replaced by Mayoress Doña Yolanda Seva Ruiz.
The political parties forming the pact are: PSOE-PSPV, CIUDADANOS, COMPROMÍS, Sí SE PUEDE SANTA POLA and EUPV.
PP have been in power at the Santa Pola Town Hall for 12 years.
-
Thanks for that, Ash.

Makes you wonder why PP didn't do a deal themselves with at least one of the others - can't see a 5 way coalition getting very far before there is a falling out, not likely to be good for GA.
-
Don't think any of the other parties would have contemplated a coalition with the PP, as they were all either socialists or 'protest' parties.

Without getting involved in the merits of individual Parties
I find it amazing that Santa Pola is now controlled by a Party who secured less than half the seats of the Party that secured the most seats, it has secured power by gaining the support of Parties who secured one seat.
Oh the joy of Democracy

so
2631 votes gets the Mayor
and
5353 votes does not
Strange democracy
-
But looking at it another way, 38% voted for the ex-mayor's party, 62% did not.

John I don't know whether you saw the link for the smart phone APP I posted. It is handy to have just in case you are unfortunate to need to contact the police when you are out in Spain.
