Got back to UK on Thursday after wonderful stay, never seen GA or the beach in August, probably won't visit at this time of year again, had easy journeys both ways from Stansted to Alicante and back again, it was very hot, 27° at night. Will certainly go back later in the year. Anyone know if this severe heat plume has hit GA ?
-
Hi Kevin. How busy was passport control in Alicante and at Stanstead on return?
-
I flew into ALC on Thursday and was through passport control etc. in five minutes. There were three officers checking passports and four checking locator forms.
-
I have to agree Kevin we’ve been here all summer and it’s been a typical July and August, with kids school holidays not much flexibility but certainly our least favourite months of the year, a bit hot at times and soo busy on the beaches.
-
Stansted was quick both ways Michael, much quieter, same with Alicante.

Must be good working for the NHS remotely in GA for the whole summer no wonder they are recruiting so many additional staff. 8) 8)

We were in GA from June till start of August. This is the first year we used the aircon at night. Some days it was hitting 93°
Back out on Monday making the most of our 90 days.
-
We rarely use air con in our house except for some heat in the cooler months but it got a lot of use in our bedroom during our August stay, I woke up in the early hours one morning drenched is sweat, I thought, I've got the virus, I hadn't, my wife had managed to switch the Aircon on to heat mode! I won't let her touch the remote control for it now.

She sounds like me that’s something I would do ;D

It’s an age thing this is me

The reality is Derek that many NHS staff have used little or no annual leave since March 2020 so it just accumulates, our trust allowed front line staff to take as much as you can during the low point of the pandemic, with everyone back at work during September for the next wave that undoubtedly will arrive this winter. Also under the working from home rules there’s nothing that states your local gp can’t run his clinic and consultations remotely from GA or anywhere else in the world.

I have to say that our two week stay at the beginning of August has been a life saver, our feel good factor has rocketed, it will take a lot to make me give up our house in GA, apart from the initial purchase, I can't think of a cheaper way of spending time in the sun and of course we'll get some money back when the house is sold, if I got what I paid for it i'd be happy. What I'm not happy about is the six pounds in weight I put on in GA ( beer)in two weeks. Have managed to shift three pounds since getting back so winning. Good luck everyone.
-
I'm not sure you can blame weight gain on GA. I think it's holidays generally. Trips away in our motorhome, bought with the proceeds of our GA apartment, has a similar effect on the bathroom scales. The "motorhome" effect is slightly more than the "cruise" effect too which is a worry.
-
I put the blame for my weight gain on beer, every time we go out I say to my wife I'm going to be sensible but it doesn't happen, I ration myself at home but the heat and the holiday feeling win in GA , still I'm within my BMI range ( just). I'd never go on a cruise as I've heard of the food that gets shovelled at one's self. If I had two weeks on a cruise ship I'd be disembarked at the end of the cruise as cargo.
-
LOL great post - I certainly couldn't do a cruise as I have the willpower of a goldfish where food is concerned and cant walk past "free vend" food. I (like you) hang ont my BMI range but I would blow it onboard for sure !

Beachlife, we are brothers in arms. I've shed a lot of weight lately and it's paid off , went to docs this week and was told I'm in good shape, good BP and resting heart weight, it would all to hell if I went on a cruise, good luck.

Whilst out walking today saw a commercial construction just past the gabe junk/tat shop opposite the church, looks quite big and undoubtedly going to ruin many views from Monte Mar any suggestions what it is ?
-
Yes, saw that the other week, concrete slabs contained in concrete uprights, as ugly as sin.
-
I think it’s going to be an Aldi.

Was told a supermarket plus a small commercial centre.
Be interesting to see how far they have gotten with it from our last time out here.
Flew out yesterday from Bristol flight more busier than our last flight out.
-
If that’s going up opposite the church, I hope they have sorted the drainage out, that area gets all the rainwater from up the top, there was car floating last year after the big down fall. !!!
-
It’s potentially huge it must be 50 foot tall now and at least the size of Mercadona with looking at the roads with more to go in. Whatever it is they will have lovely views towards the sea and Alicante, sadly the same can’t be said for the homeowners opposite. Might be a coincidence but quite a few sale boards up along that stretch.
-
It’s always been a problem with loss of views. I’ve lost count of the number of people I’ve spoken to over the last 22 years who paid extra for sea views or mountain views with the promise that nothing was going to built in their sight line .
Then a few short years later hey ho they build a complete urbanisation in front of them. I’ve decided that the sea view promise is about as true as the golf course will be built within a couple of years we were told 22 years ago the only way to get a sea view guaranteed is to built a house on the beach

When I was over in July they were constructing a pretty wide (and fairly deep) culvert and covering it over with a concrete slab. The culvert stretched quite a way across the new construction phase - I guess making its way down to a runoff area by the 332.
You might not want it running under your shiny new property!

Has anyone taken any photos ??. I wonder if they will put a bus / train stop outside, at the moment it goes straight pass that section of land !
-
Surely someone must know what it’s going to be, hopefully more bars and restaurants, probably find out in the next edition of the granalacantadvertiser.
Any good suggestions / ideas 🤣🤣
-
They've installed a massive square section pre constructed storm channel on Noreuga more or less opposite the church.

Yes Steve there is certainly a shortage of bars and restaurants in GA.
Derek
Ps If they opened those that are currently closed because of the lack of punters you could double the seating capacity overnight without laying a brick although most bars owners are not actually laying bricks there being another expression containing bricks!

The new building is going to be used for Gabe Market, they will relocate over there.
Then the old Gabe Market will be Aldi
