Hi are the construction site open out there as they are here, the London Underground is rammed with construction workers at rush hour time , not 2 mts apart, the Government sent out a letter to the main contractors thanking them for working !!!
How is that a lock down???
-
Double standards. My son runs a construction company in the U.K. And is aware of the Chancellor thanking construction companies for continuing working. His company has decided not to continue working as they are unable to ensure the 2m apart both at work, traveling and dining.30 per cent of his workers are involved with essential workers in their families so are unable to be available for work anyway.
He understands that if they do not make the effort to go to site asap they would not be entitled to the Government grant of 80per cent of their wage bill.
So in effect they are asking him to authorize breaking the law to ensure his company stays viable. How bad is that?

It’s total confusion, nobody will commit to anything, I’m just sad that the government is happy to make people work when they are saying stay in doors, and could bring home the virus and infect the whole household !, and they they are thanking you for it. !!!!!!!

The issue from my experience in the construction industry especially in london is whether the worker is on the books or casual. There are doubtless thousands who are off the radar with the taxman and wont and cant stay at home safe and sound getting theyre 80%, the only option is to keep working.
-
Wilson your 100% correct, the company’s are now issuing travel permits to the workers on site so if they get stop by thre police going on the underground it lets them through.
Who knows what will happen after Easter when more and more come back to work with out being checked !

Has work on the new hotel stopped ?
-
Our construction workers were stopped completely, they've been allowed back to work this week so its possible that it may have restarted , or not, but due to the situation for hoteliers with this virus and the economic situation it will put them all in I am worried that they'll just down tools and leave it (as a lot of builders did in the financial crash).
It would look awful on the edge of GA if they left it uncompleted and they cant be too far off finishing, at least all the external parts, but who knows what will happen now, with this situation affecting finances and particularly the travel industry, everywhere.

Construction work on the hotel restarted on the day it was allowed to (the 14th as I recall)

Gaveteran, thats good to hear, it will be even better when we see it finished, any idea when they were hoping to finish because they started it at a heck of a rate.
