Yes Kevin.  Bank rate was at 1.20 at one point.  Great if you're buying - not so good if you're selling, but more spending money when you're there.

Improving but we based our retirement on the average 1.50 back in 2005 which we once received on average, and not as good as the 1.62 when we signed for our property in 2002.

Since the euro started we’ve had highs of 1.50 and lows of 1.02 with everything in between, some bought at 1.50 and sold at 1.02 with the conversion made a profit. My advice to any new buyer is only buy what you can afford and don’t rely on exchange rates to fund retirement if the sums are tight.

The only people that do well are the currency traders who spend half the day pushing the rate up then the next part pushing it down to make a profit, then repeating the process every day. Unfortunately us mortals are just along for the ride.
