Emailed my mate about a job and he emailed back to say, I'm currently in your favourite place....filming with 'a place in the sun'.
I can't wait to see him next week to see how it went. I said, we'd probably have been there too but we're gonna become grandparents in a couple of weeks and the wife has put a block on buying in Spain for a few years.
-
It would be interesting to know when this is going to be broadcast.
-
Grandparents??? wow Dave - many many congratulations to you both. Sending you a message as well. x
-
I took a look at a few Gran Alacant estate agents websites this week, I was gobsmacked to see how many properties are up for still up for sale that were on the market when we listed ours in January 2017.
Makes you realise why you often see them making such low offers on this programme, also makes you think that there are lot of unrealistically priced properties for sale in GA

Cheers Maureen,
Excited much 😀 x

Personally i got fed up with this programme several years ago as many of the couples clearly had no intention of ever buying a property and the few that did wanted a quarter million house for 50 grand. There was a minority who seemed genuine buyers who wanted there place in the sun. I think the issue of values in GA will go on for many years to come, there is a constant over supply for sale but still great demand. The issue is the owners who for many reasons get desperate to sell and thus reduce price and take low offers, the owners who just want to upsell or move location are competing against the desperados.
-
The biggest desperados being the banks.
We got €165,000 for our two bed duplex on Novamar 5 last year.
Next door, end of block, three bed duplex was sold at the back end of last year for €135,000 by the bank who stood the mortgage.
Another bank have also just sold a south facing three bed duplex overlooking the pool for €125,000 on Novamar 5.
If you know where to look the bargains are there

Hi this will be good for the area, does anyone know which areas / property’s they looked at ???
Will it. E shown this year. .
Steve

Two years ago, I sold mine after almost three years o the market for less than I paid for it. It was only the exchange rate shift that enabled me to get my money back. I was on Novamar 3 and was miles away from the sort of prices that John is quoting, although mine was a smaller property.
-
In our case the property market is on the up. Thanks to Victoria Inmobilaria we sold our Altomar II apartment in 4 weeks. We had 4 viewings, 2 of whom wanted to buy our place at the full asking price , and no we didn't give it away.
The viewers were Dutch, English and Norwegian.
Yes there are similar properties to ours that have been for sale for a year or more, and our price was higher, but we have had a lot of refurbishment.
People aren't necessarily looking for cheap deals.
-
The show is on in 3 months.
I won’t spoil the ending. 😀

Ooh let me have a guess, the british couple are retiring early and looking for a spanish property, they know nothing about the area but think its wonderful. They are selling there 2 bed terrace in suburbia with no drive or garden and want a 4 bed detached villa on a large plot with sea views and a pool (must have a pool) with a budget of £3.60. They see properties over budget, pick faults with mosf of them, then return to the uk to consider there options but promising to return later in the year.
-
Wilson, I've already seen that episode but it was £4.20
-
Brilliant !
-
Yes, you get these people who ooh and ahh at all the properties and at the end decide to buy a house in Luton. Big yawn.
-
Wilson...you have issues...get therapy......and you're wrong.
On a brighter note....I bought a new car today!...Yay for me.
Cheers
Davy !!!
-
Dave calm down, its a tongue in cheek comment.Should have been £5.60 my mistake apologies.
-
Couldn't agree with you more - half the people that come on these shows are just tyre kickers who go all the way through the motions find something in their budget but then have to go and "think about it"
and your right about people not having a clue about location vs price. Yes you can have a nice 3 bed detached villa with a pool for €150 k but you are going to be in the Campo with a long drive to the beach.
You must have heard it on these shows hundreds of times " now if we could have this house nearer the sea with sea views ......" Well they cant !
On a different note - good friend of mine has upscaled here in GA selling his 2005 Coral for €95K (think he paid €135k for it) to a really nice Novamar (blue roofed) house overlooking the allotment area - bang on South facing with gated, covered parking. I think he's done ok (mind you taxes, solicitors and agents must have cost him over €10K) -
-
Hahahaha....I did guess Wilson. I'm not daft. I know you won't get much change out of five grand for a decent property in Spain! ;)
-

Steve
They looked at five houses around Mont y Mar and La Marina. Should be broadcast in about 3-4 months from filming
-
ia it possible we can have a date when this is televised ?
-
Apparently, this episode won’t now be shown during this series. It’ll be in the next. Date unknown.

Davy!

I bet the film crew have access to specialist software capable of masking the heaps of rubbish left by bins.
-
I think it's called....Panning to the left. :P
-
For anyone interested ,the episode featuring Gran Alacant is to be shown this coming Monday 8/7/19 at 5.00 pm Spanish time

Thank you Bramleylad for the heads up.

Glad to hear the “rumour mill” was wrong - looking forward to it - hope they are not tire kickers !
These people never seem to buy to their budget and pout (frankly) stupid offers in

When we put our place up for sale I looked at all the comparable properties for sale in GA at the time....some of them had asking prices set in cuckoo land!!
I note that they are all still for sale some 20 months after we listed ours for sale, we sold ours in less than 12 months and got all within a couple of thousand of the asking price.
If the “buyers” on the TV programme are visiting some of these overpriced properties they will indeed, if they have any sense and have researched the market, be making offers well below the “inflated” asking price.
Always makes me laugh when they say this is a bargain it’s just reduced by €30,000.....read it was overpriced, no mugs bought it, they’ve just brought it more in line with market valuations.
I went out with an old work mate last week who bought a place on The Golden Mile in Marbella about the same time as we bought in GA, we sold for slightly more than we paid, he paid €320,000 and sold for just over €1,500,000.....I should have listened to Mrs H when she said wanted to buy down there.

Hi John
Did she say i told you so ::
Mushte
-
She did indeed!!
In truth June always wanted to buy down there, I was a bit too tight fisted when I compared what you could buy on the Blanca compared to the Sol.
Although we both agree that in hindsight we should have bought in Tenerife for the Winter temperatures....you live and learn!!

I watched a bit of a programme that was filmed just over a year ago and the thing I noticed with the properties viewed was that they had all been reduced from the original asking price. It still seems that one must be flexible to get a sale.
-
Well all was revealed today!
-
I think the show boosted up the area, really good
-
Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be - at least they seemed a genuine couple and ended up with a good value buy.
I thought GA was shown in a decent light and has done the area no harm. They dropped on with some cracking weather for March filming - always make the place look better
-
I really enjoyed the show and felt that it showed GA in a great light....unlike the last time it was on.
They're both delighted with the property they bought.
-
Like to know where in GA house prices have risen 20% in the last year
-
I also thought it was a great advert for Gran Alacant and it was good to see the buyers so happy with their eventual choice.
It was interesting to learn that La Marina is only 5 minutes further from the airport than GA. There must be a secret road that we haven’t discovered yet!
-
I also thought it was great advert for GA.
After nearly 20 years we still pinch ourselves.
-
I watched it today on my phone cos our TV is down (that god for Sky Go!!). It did look good. I know exactly where they bought and glad she is so happy. I really liked what they bought. Wld be my dream if it had 3 bedrooms

Where exactly did they buy please

Gran Alacant.

Here
-
Just saw it.... I would definitely try to find the extra 20k for the property they finally got. What a difference 20 odd k makes...
Where where they at the very end... having a drink over looking the sea? It looked a nice spot.
-
Thank you for your replies must admit great buy

Hi do you know where the million pound plus villa is in the area ??? Shown on the program.
-
Was actually in Muxtamel Steve - poetic licence I guess :)
-
Mick said they’re using it as a holiday home for now and will move permanently early next year.
-
Gutted I can’t watch it. Hopefully it will still be on the ch4 app when back home.
