Title: Car Rental
Post by: Peds and Lol on March 05, 2018, 13:05.
We have hired from gold car for the last few times when in GA but had issues with them following the last rental. We have seen Flamenca Cars advertising. Has any one used them and if so any reviews or opinions thanks

Please post details of your 'issues' as it is always useful for other members who may be thinking of hiring a car..

Over time I think were have all had issues with one or other of them. It's a bit pot luck really. I'm fortunate in that if I get this far south again for old times sake, it will be in my motorhome.

Whoever you use just take out their full insurance package, it’s not that expensive and takes all the hassle and worry out of it, I end up paying c.€100 a week all in, a bargain
If you use one of the agencies such as Do You Spain or Holiday Autos do not take out their insurance, the car hire companies will not recognise it.

I too always take the full insurance to avoid hard sell hassle at the desk. I usually use goldcar but can never seem to get a car for less than 150€. I still think its worth the extra few bob for no surprises when you get home.

We always use Xtra car hire. Easy pick up at Alacante, no extras and never had any problems.

Used xtra car hire for the first time a few weeks back. Over all a good experience. Got a car with a non functioning ac though. Even though it was not needed because of the temperature I saw it as a good oppurtunity to test their support. Emailed them and soon enough I had a reply with an apology and a request to let the mechanic com and have a look and change the car if it was no easy fix. Declined the offer but it was a reassuring event if something would happen if we rent again with them.

Hi John,
I will probably use Do You Spain for my hire car in June ,can you explain why I should not take out there ins; Should I not be using DYSpain ?

No problems with Do You Spain, they have some great deals, if you take out their fully comprehensive insurance the car hire companies will take a “charge” against your credit card and you will have to pay for any damage to the car at the end of the hire period and claim it back through Do You Spain’s insurers.....a pain in the but, lots of paperwork and hassle.....and will the claim get rejected?
If you take the insurance out directly with the hire company there are no such worries, no charges on your card, you just take the car back and that’s it, if someone had scratched it it’s not your problem!!
Hope this explains

How much do they charge.  Doesnt it almost double the cost of the hire though?

I just look at the total cost for the hire period, as noted earlier I end up paying €100/120 a week, in my book still good value and completely stress and hassle free.
They do have a cap on the cost, so if you come for four weeks as we tend to it does lower the average weekly cost.
Although you can decide to have no fully comprehensive cover with the car hire company and if you wish buy your insurance through someone like insurance4hire car or have no comprehensive cover and take any claim on the chin

No mention of wing mirrors on that list, I can tell you from experience that Solmar - before they went bust - charged 110 euros if you scratched one. Insurance4carhire covered it in full within 4 weeks, easy to claim for.

Full insurance with the car hire companies varies considerably, range typically between 5 and 9 euros per day, but as John says there is usually a maximum cap on this - you need to check each company's terms carefully.

Personally, I use Dickmans as a norm and book via Carhireinspain.com, no issues at all with them in over 10 years, the time I used Solmar, against by wishes, was when Dickmans could not provide the vehicle needed so I had to go elsewhere.
