I know it would not have been you as you are prepared to see all sides of a point
So could you please give me an unbiased reason as to why it would be removed

Sorry Ash, I didn't see your post so I can not comment as to why it was removed.

I am a little unsure why you have stepped down as a moderator
Was there a reason or are you much to busy

Very busy planning holidays, gardening, watching rugby and playing with cars

Why step down......matter of principle
There is one member who has had quite a few posts deleted and amended as they fell foul of forum rules and in my view is out to cause disruption on the forum.
I thought at least their membership should have been locked for a couple of weeks or closed all together.
I felt unable to continue as a moderator when this person was allowed to continue posting.
Sorry Les

That sounds fair
But it does not answer my original question as to why my post was removed
I don't think I broke any forum roles
Maybe someone could advise me as would hate to see this Forum have the same issues as the old GA Plaza had

Hi everyone . it certainly was not my post.
I was confronted with the fact that some posts of mine were changed or amended. Now everyone remembers that in Hans's time people were very convinced the forum was of the posters, not of Hans. John s reply only confirmes a forum is owned by the forum operator.
I posted a number of posts which - if you know me a bit - are somewhat sarcastic like the German comedy on the Greek Minister of Finance. I did not see anyone complaining, and then noticed there were 4 nipples in it. Which brought me to the question whether the spot would be censored or not, as John needs to make sure his children (who I suppose are over 18) must be protected from such a sight. Just trying to be funny and I think there was a smile on some people's face I imagine ... I see it has now disappeared so you can t have German Humour any longer about the Euro.
Similary I posted about the pots for microwaves. Believe it or not, I think it is a gorgeous idea - and am furious at myself of not having thought about something like it some 20 years ago :-) Of interest to GA - I would think so ...
Now something more important: I do operate a number of sites, incl one which in reality costs me a lot of time. But I make money out of it - and as the Greenpeace debacle last year has shown, associations etc. must make money to survive. Enthusiasm is good but ... it only takes a bit of time to have something like boredom set in. Similarly over the last year or so, John was always waxing enthusiastically about Facebook and how it would end any forum like this one.
Maybe his enthusiasm got the better of John when he accepted the role of "corrector" and reality set in? I don t know.
If anyone is interested in my opinion: it's a normal forum, funny at times, and can only grow. But I suggest that the forum owner (happy it is not me) finds some way to make him get some payment (Adsense?) because otherwise in another few months I see dark times come, when the novelty has worn off. I hope I am wrong.
All the best,
-
Whilst I don't know anything about the post which was removed I do know however some posts which the said person (above- who we all know) has made have been questionable , if not contravening the rules below:
"You agree, through your use of this forum, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, adult material, or otherwise in violation of any International or United States Federal law."
I would however like the rules to add "provocation" into the rules as this poster simply wants to wind up anyone he feels like. History seems to be repeating itself.
Sad times.

My question has still not been answered though
I wonder why ?

Have to agree with Joe. Sad times indeed that the new forum is being polluted with the same nonsense that destroyed Hans' forum. Microwave pressure cookers!

From the forum rules

Sounds fair enough to me!!

Yes, it is fair enough, although difficult to enforce without causing a protest now and again simply because the decision to remove will always be a subjective one on the part of the owner. Nonetheless, the intentions in my view are correct.
However, I think this part of the rules should be amended slightly:
"This is a privately owned site. Posting is a privilege, not a right. Any inappropriate posts or any issues that take up a disproportionate amount of site resources or make it a worse place to be will be stopped at our discretion - with or without explanation"
The problem is the "without explanation" bit. I think that it would be much better if, when a post is removed, the poster concerned should be advised by email or PM why it has been done. There is no need for it to be done publicly on the forum. That clearly had not happened in this case (although it may of course have happened since) when Ash started this thread.
If this had been done, this thread would never have been started and we wouldn't be having this discussion.
Just a thought,
Michael.

Ash ... I am the one who removed the original post. I have sent you a PM.

The old plaza was in my opinion the best and sometimes the worst of forums, whilst i dont want to see a return to the absolute nonsense that we endured i also would like a forum that's buzzing at times with lively debate and opinions. I know its early days but ive noticed that a lot of threads fizzle out quite quickly where on the plaza they would run and run.Because at the moment its just a resource library in some ways, because without members posting it will simply fail in the long term .

Well said Joe! you are speaking for many of us!

This was explained to Ash, by Private Message, as stated above.
We are trying hard to keep this forum wrangle & hassle free.
Some say we go too far, but others still don't feel we go far enough.
It has taken some considerable effort to set up (for which I take NO credit).
It is everybodies' right to participate, & I would have hoped that the general tone & accepted conditions were, by now well & truly established.
There is already a great deal of stuff here, & loads of info & advice has been exchanged.
This is positive, & long may it remain so!!!!!

OMG was just yesterday viewing My Fair Lady - and professor Higgins....
Others feel we still don' t go far enough
everybody
established or understood?
exchanged or offered?
Oh professor Higgins!!!!!!
Get me my slippers :-)
Now seriously: it always is a delicate balancing act. Right or wrong? As long as you don t change sentences in my posts without telling me - otherwise have to re-read them which is always a bit tedious ...
-
Read and follow the rules as 99% of members have consistently done and you won't have a problem.
If you don't like our moderation you can always contribute to another forum
Regards all
John
PS if we do moderate/amend the content of a post a footnote clearly shows that this has been done, from memory it's only been done three or four times since the forum started.
If a post is removed there is no notification of this on the forum, I will add only two members have had posts removed
Let's not blow this out of proportion

As you say, John, 99 per cent can read and follow the rules. But there's always one..
Let common sense and order prevail!
