hi has anyone had one of those water taps installed with the filter, and have you notice a difference in the taste ??, is it as good as bottled water, would you recommend having one installed .
Thanks
Steve

We had one fitted about a year ago and yes, it is well worth it and the water tastes just fine. Before that we used jug water filters, they turn out to be quite expensive.
-
Had one for years. No taste difference and a an absolute "no-brainer" financially.
-
Drunk the tap water in GA for 17 years without any harm.
-
How often does the filter need changing, what is the cost ??
-
spain is not a third world counry have enjoyed the tap water for 12 years

Just found this on the interweb, and yea I know there are some that say it's fine.
Alicante
The quality of tap water in eastern parts of the country is not the best, and it is recommended to consume bottled water instead. In Alicante, ideally you wouldn’t drink the water here or use it for cooking. According to the Hispagua web page, amongst the nutrients found within the tap water from this city are high levels of trihalomethanes, more than the permitted levels for clean drinking water. Consuming the water here could cause problems to your health.
I have a water filter off Kev the Karaoke King from oceans, his advert is in the GA magazine and the water from it is lovely without that horrible swimming pool taste.
€75 well spent and no problem with buying and storing loads of plastic bottles
Anymore, which gives me a warm glow when I think that every time I use it I'm saving the planet and my pocket.

My feeling exactly re the tap water.

I think what you found on the 'interweb' might be a bit dated. I had read something like that a while ago and was put off. We had always drank the tap water but last year for the first time in years I stocked up on 8 litre bottles. Cheap but a pain, anyway I did a bit of research recently and couldnt find anything negative so we are back on the tap water. I would be interested to know the real facts. Have never been ill but would not like to think there are any health issues going forward

If the water "No Potable" they should say !!
We use a mains filtered water tap but have always cooed and brushed our teeth with tap water. The only thing is I'm not sure if I need to change the filter - its probably only used 12 / 14 weeks a year and its been in 3 yeasr now. Perhaps I am getting no benefit from its filtration ? Any way - no issues so far

Here's my two penneth.
Ive no idea what the tap water does to your health, all I know is that it tastes dire!!
We use a Brita jug to filter the water for tea, coffee and ice cubes......does make the water far more palatable.
A cartridge, cost about 5 euros, and lasts about four weeks.......the length of our visits.
If we spent more time there we would probably have a filter unit and drinking tap installed.

Have used a mains watered tap for 10 years now
When I see how much grit comes out of the standard tap it's a no brainer

Thanks for the link John. On the subject of water I have 2 8 litre plastic bottles that fill with the water from my aircon units. I take them down and water the plants on our urb. The spanish round our pool seem to find it quite amusing. Sort of puts me off doing it tbh so I wait till they're not about !!

You should start selling it puddy-woo, distilled water, it'll keep your neighbours steam irons from getting gunked up.

Fitted a filter about 10 years ago with a tap on the sink that does filtered or mains. It has been brilliant. Amazing that its purer than bottled water. I use a simple tester when we go to check the purity and change the filters approx. once every 2 years , 30 euros. the tester is available from ----https://www.tinydeal.com/TDS-3-Handheld-Digital-LCD-Water-Quality-Tester-Pen-Temp-PPM-Filter-Water-Purity-Meter-p-158846.html?currency=GBP&ship_to=UK&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpa&utm_term=HHI-510586&utm_campaign=PLA-UK well worth a few quid .

I have a guy comes round every couple of years to "service" our hot water boiler.
Ash will back me on this as he was there one year whilst it was being serviced.....the guy who does it always gets close on half a bucket of limescale and gunk out of the boiler......the sight of what comes out is enough to stop you drinking the water!!

No different to England - we have limescale here too, I wouldn't dream of buying bottled water in England.

We drink the 8 litre bottles each 1 will last a week cost 80 cents doesnt seem worth getting a filter tap, as john stated the tap water does have a poor smell. I asked my spanish neighbour who has lived in the area for 40 years about tap water she adamantly said its no good and the family only drink bottled water.
-
Was going to comment about not drinking water as fish have unprotected sex in it, but on a serious note, the damage caused by the lime, chlorine, etc. to boilers, washing machines etc. does further the argument for a filter. That said, we don't have one, & have been lucky to only have one boiler replacement in our years.
This thread has made me think now.
-
I think you need to look into the difference between a water filter and a water softener.

Tut tut victor, you're not drinking enough water you need to be quaffing 1 1/2 Litres of the stuff a day, and doesn't include the tonic in your Gin LoL

We use tap water for cooking. The food tastes OK to me.
For tea, Jen uses the loose-leaf Yorkshire tea specially blended for hard water.
I always used tap water for coffee but eventually it blocked-up the machine. I then had to boil white vinegar in it to clear the scale (get it in Mercadona). I only use bottled water to make coffee nowadays. It doesn't block the coffee machine. The taste is the same as using tap water.
We also use tap water to dilute cordials such as Vimto - and also to make ice cubes. There seems no difference in the taste.

I can confirm that the contents of Johns boiler was incredible
Although the enjoyment of listening to the engineer talking about looking after your water was comedy genius

Hi euroland, sorry, his contact details are in the house in Spain, we are there in three weeks, I can let you know then.
He's a Dutch guy, he services quite a lot of boilers in GA, he spends one day a week working in GA.
He's called Patrick, with from memory the surname of Walden......other forum members may have his details, or those of someone else who services electric water heaters

Two days after clearing the normal Kitchen tap end
I have always used a separate filtered tap for my drinking water
The amount of sand/grit that comes out of the taps in GA is incredible
