I've seen lots of videos on Facebook of flooding up and down the Costa today, how's GA faired?

Windy and wild all day loads of rain, unable to go on bikes, but been warm, don't know of any flooding yet (ours under build has had water three time previously but now solved) but think that wind will have caused problems, wind still whistling through house doors all closed but still happy
Seasons greetings

Seen this posted on Facebook from the boardwalk nearest aranels John https://www.facebook.com/costablancaorg/videos/1438959242804502/

Ravine rocks washed onto the road, particularly on the road leading down to the beach, the local council guys removing them yesterday. Lots of localised flooding around road speed bumps.
Also as quick as the dog dirt is washed away it is replaced with fresh dirt!!!

Sounds like GA has got off quite lightly compared to other areas
Love the last comment Maricia, shame it's so true.
Hopefully all the rain will have gone for the last three weeks in January, the nights will just be cold, not cold and wet

Terrible that. Mind the weather was awful when was there 3 weeks ago but nothing like this. Had a coffee in nice little bar just on the corner there. This weather is very unusual for Costa Blanca isn't it?
-
We are going for three weeks in January Chris, Lord knows why........it can be OK in the day, clear blue skies and lovely to sit out in the sun.........but come night time, we will have an electric bill of €120 for the month and the house still wont be warm.......the restaurants and bars are also cold!!
The main reason we go is to check that the house is OK.........in hindsight I wish we'd booked flight to Tenerife and Madeira as we did last year...........
They tend to have rain like this at least once every couple of years.

John
PS A friends just posted on Facebook.........she decided to light her fire for the first time in her new home yesterday.........came down this morning to find the wooden mantle shelf had caught fire and fallen down.......quality buiding work there!!
-
Were still risking tenerife for january.sat in a cold house with your jumper on trying to get warm is not my idea of fun. And yes before someone says it GA does have some nice weather, but trying to find open bars and restaurants that had customers was a rare thing unless things have improved.

I bet the Parres centre took a hammering - it's staying open this Winter. Last weekend was lovely

-
Unsure if true or not but I've just read that part of the roof at Mercadona has collapsed
More videos being posted on Facebook, looks terrible
I bet there a lot of houses in GA that have damp patches like never before

It's been wet john pretty much 48 hrs on really heavy rain all the road and car parks were like rivers haven't heard about mercadonnas roof but it was open earlier when I went past . The wind was really bad seen a few bits of toldos along the roads and it raining lightly again now
-
Has been pretty bad, we were up at 3.30 am stemming water coming in from the galleria when the drain just couldnt cope, the road between the beach and Carabassi bars was well flooded with the water pouring into the clot like a waterfall over the path. Worse than Ive seen here for a very long time.

Parres Centre yesterday evening

Beach at Carabassi seems to have fared better than a lot of others on costa Blanca , was there any damage to Clot or elsewhere in area?
-
I've just had my "sun rise" walk on the beach, the Parres centre has gone.....just a few planks of wood are left to move

Its been lovely today out of the wind, hit 20C

The last few planks of wood of the Parres Centre; a few diesel spills that I hope they clear up.
Lovely on the beach today but a bracing wind, as John says out of the wind it's toasty. The south terrace of the Estrella Mar bar in Arenales is my recommendation.

Lovely. I'll take up yr recommendation Dave (if i get there☃️). Had already decided on lunch in SP

Hope you made it OK.
Time your visit between 2 and 4pm when the terrace is in full sun and there are little free snacks with every round of drinks. It can be a bit windy so be prepared for that.
Lovely again today but the wind is a bit stronger.
Dave
-
Whereabouts in Arenales is the Estrella Mar Bar ?
-
As you enter Arenales from GA it's at the far end of the second block of apartments on the sea side of the road. There is a small shop, closed in winter, just off the promenade; go through the little gateway and walk along the Alicante side of the block and the bar is right at the end closest to the sea. You have to walk around the end of the bar to get in as the door on the Alicante side is usually closed in winter due to the prevailing wind.
The first block of apartments on the GA side blocks the sun from the terrace until about 2pm but then its full sun until it goes behind the apartments on the land side. In summer you need the awnings down but on the right day in winter it can be glorious.

Thanks Dave, I think I know where you mean.

I've been a shorts boy today

Hi puddy woo,
Glad you liked it, it's been one of our watering holes for years, I thought everyone knew it was there but looking at it I suppose it's easy to overlook and pass by.
A lot less wind today and no clouds so John can get his shorts on again.
Dave

You obviously haven't ventured out today Dave, it's cold!!
The forecast for next week doesn't make pleasant reading

Just read on another forum that there is snow in Torrevieja this morning. The post states that in 22 years of living in Torrevieja it is the first time she has seen snow there. Is GA ok and snow free? Jen
-
Snow free, just a tad chilly.
Few snowflakes in Santa Pola this morning.
There's been some heavy falls inland and further down the coast (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170118/e19114356c0cff04fc9882cf8e018448.png)

I was in a cafe in the castle square in Santa Pola when we were waiting for our place to be finished and noticed a photo on the wall showing the square covered in snow taken, I would guess in the 50/60's. I mentioned to my OH at the time "perhaps we haven't bought far enough south".

Lovely night, chucked it down non stop, thunder and lightening......it will have washed the snow away.
Now it's blowing a gale that's taking anything not bolted down and the rain is horizontal!!
Won't be venturing far today

I might have mentioned in the past my eldest lived and worked in Tenerife for 7 years.
Location as ever is the price driver but we went over and stopped with him in "Port royale apartments los cristianos" - have a google.
Well located, mature, nice gardens and some of them have stunning views
Best value - but probably too far up the coast for you John was in "Palm Mar" - he lived there the longest as he worked in Cristianos and it was only a 10 minute drive
-
Thanks Rich, I'll take a look later
