Following a few posts on the forum a few months ago we visited Terry Venables Hotel La Escondida this afternoon for lunch.
What a gorgeous hotel in amazing surroundings.
I asked for a table on the terrace and thats what they gave me, stunning views, the service was exemplary.
The food........not far off fine dining, one of the best, if not the best meal I have ever had in Spain, top notch in every way.
It will now be a regular for us and has taken the position as our favourite restaurant.
Thanks Rich and Sue for mentioning it

Looks lovely. Is it far?

Google maps has it approx. 80 km and an hour's drive away.
Was it busy, John? Did you get a sense of many people staying there? - looks to be an ideal spot for a weekend getaway and no more expensive that a half decent hotel in Madrid!
-
Hi Michael, it took us about 55 minutes sticking to the speed limits.
It was very quiet
C. 12 other non residents having lunch and around 8 residents having a lighter lunch, quite a few cars in the car park though.....possibly staff.
We will definitely be having an "over nighter" when next out to sample the dinner menu

Looks fantastic.
Nice to know the food is good. We are booked in for two nights in January.
John do you know if there is much around there as in near by towns or villages.

Hi Sian, I'd have enjoyed an hour with my camera looking around the local villages that we passed close by...........as for whats there, not a lot I would guess.
You arn't that far from the Guadalest and Les Fonts de L'Algar so dependent on where you have visited before there's quite a bit to see.
Enjoy

Sian, the nearest major town is Alcoy, somewhere I have intended to visit for some time but not managed it yet

Alcoy. Go on St. George's Day, but for the day & the evening.
Brilliant!

Many thanks. For the replys everyone. I have been wanting to go to Guadalest for a while now. We have been to Les Fonts de L'Algar, but in the hight of season, so guessing it should be better without so many people around.
Shall look at the link to Alcoy
Roll on January . 😀

I tried to book a room at Eacondida for a couple of nights this month, unfortunately they close for three weeks as of next Monday for staff holidays.
I received a message from them last night that they have an offer on for this week of buy one menu del dia at standard price and get one at half price

We have just come back from a two nights stay. What an amazing place. The food the staff the accommodation couldn't have asked for more.
Terry Venables came to the hotel In the evening and spoke to all the guests. I even had him laughing when he asked me my views on football. I actually dislike the sport.
Hoping to go back in the summer.

Terry was "in" today Sian and came and had a chat, football wasnt mentioned, we had a laught about me being the first person to respond to his January special offer.
The food was brilliant, the star course for me being a Beetroot risotto with roasted salmon and fennel..........I cook a lot of risottos, but after sampling this one today, one of the best I've ever had I need to go back to the classroom.
We turned left out of the hotel driveway and came home the long way round...........absolutely stunning scenery.

Did he ask you how you heard of his restaurant/ hotel. He did us and we mentioned you and your review on a forum.
The food there is amazing. Could happily take the chef home. Looking forward to going back again, would love to see the grounds in the summer time.

Must be why he made a fuss of me!!
It was only the second time we've been and when we walked in I said "we've got a lunch reservation in the name of Hannon"......the waiter quickly replied "we have a table for you John", which I found rather strange.
Terry appeared shortly after and thanked me for my reviews of our last visit, we had a laugh about how quickly I responded to his first week of January special offer!!
I'm pleased to say no mention of football, it's a subject I know nothing about
It was obvious from our chat that he's not just a figure head, he pays a lot of interest in the day to day running of the business

Nice to see an owner play an active roll and chat to his customers and guests.
Glad you enjoyed your lunch.

Just came from an overnight stay at La Escondida on special March deal, for 250 euros per couple we got glass of cava on arrival on the lovely terrace, after going to room to change we then had afternoon tea again served on sunny terrace which consisted of another glass of cava, 4 types of delicious sandwiches, cream scones, cakes and a lovely pana cotta with a pot of tea.
Deal was also any pre dinner drink, any 3 course of a la carte menu which was superb, I had a massive rib eye steak and Jackie had salmon fillet, both had open ravioli with salmon, scallops and prawns as starter. Also included were a bottle of house wine, coffee and any liqueur you wanted.
Following day full breakfast included, we also made use of lovely indoor pool, a great day at a great price. They may Ben doing same deal into April but you need to be hungry to get through all food and drinks!!
