Boris for PM. Lets shake things up a bit.
-
Fine with leaving EU
But please not Boris Gump for PM !!!! Haven't we suffered enough ?
-
does this mean all the English working at the European Commission and Parliament, and at OAMI in Alicante will now be fired over the next few weeks?
-
Just the English or would that equally apply to Welsh, Irish or Scots? ::)
-
Does this mean we've been kicked out of the Euros and Iceland will get through to the Quarter Finals on a bye?
-
Will my ticket for tonight's Euro Millions Lottery still be valid?
That £31 million might come in handy
So many questions

Boris for prime minister and nigel as foreign secretary it could be a bumpy ride ahead.
-
As a "reluctant remainer" I think in the long term the vote is something we will come to regret. Boris, Gove and their Little Englanders will have a lot to live up to in the coming months.
One things for sure is that the Law of Unintended Consequences will get a good airing as the genie leaves the bottle.

Also will we still be eligible to fail dismally in the Eurovision Song Contest?

Think a big problem with the EU and our eventual leaving was not adopting each others cultures and idiosyncrasy such as the British not adopting the Spanish practice of as a family aimlessly wandering the streets in the evening and the Spanish refusing to accept their quotas of Vimto.

What a day. All the fat cats have got the right hump i can tell you. Very aggressive in the City. My boss emailed me to say I wont be getting a bonus this year because property prices will plummet (really he's got the hump that I voted out....and I'm not joking) then my son (who is a trader and also voted out) has just told me the co. he works for traded a billion dollars today. The most in 2 years!!! Cant be all that bad???

A Prime Minister resigned. The £ plummeted. The FTSE 100 lost significant ground. But then the £ rallied past February levels, and the FTSE closed on a weekly high: 2.4% up on last Friday, its best performance in 4 months. President Obama decided we wouldn't be at the 'back of the queue' after all and that our 'special relationship' was still strong. The French President confirmed the Le Touquet agreement would stay in place. The President of the European Commission stated Brexit negations would be 'orderly' and stressed the UK would continue to be a 'close partner' of the EU. A big bank denied reports it would shift 2,000 staff overseas. The CBI, vehemently anti-Brexit during the referendum campaign, stated British business was resilient and would adapt. Several countries outside the EU stated they wished to begin bi-lateral trade talks with the UK immediately. If this was the predicted apocalypse, well, it was a very British one. It was all over by teatime. Not a bad first day of freedom, and it was lovely this evening on our little beach up here in Yorkshire (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160624/3bb325b486450074149219e67a8d1f9b.jpg)

At last we can get back to traditional British values. Get rid of the abomination that is decimal currency and return to good old Pounds, Shillings and Pence. I want my spuds in pounds and ounces, and my milk in pint bottles. I will also be able to wield my 5/13" Whitworth spanner again. I can work out what my car is doing in terms of miles per gallon.
Best of all, when we have a British Passport again, we can get the guvmint to send a gunboat to any country where you have just been arrested for speeding. Hooray!

And myself and 16 million other UK residents have just been stripped of our EU citizenship against our will overnight. A good prime minister has just resigned (quite rightly) and there's turmoil in Scotland again. I can't help but feel incredibly sad.
-
I voted with a heavy heart Chris
I don't have a problem with immigration
I knew Gove and Co were telling lies about money for the NHS
I voted against a European state.
I voted against a European gravy train wasting millions a year
I voted against an organisation that lets China dump below cost steel on us at the expense of our workers jobs and our own steel industry
I voted against a bureaucracy that can't agree itself on how to deal with a mass migration influx
I voted against a bureaucracy that supports a doomed currency that has already spelt heartbreak and poverty for a lot of Southern Europe
The list could go on.
The decision has been made
It's now time to move on

It's called democracy, a concept being denied a few million other Europeans, get used to it!
-
I think its a relief that we can at least vote to get rid of government we don't like every five years where we never would be able to do with the EU fat cats there is always going to be co lateral damage i.e loss of rights to expats but they chose to live abroad and accept the risks , I voted to Exit but was surprised of the level of support for it. We aren't going to be the only exiteers , going to be interesting.

Its quite odd that some just dont understand how democracy works, the people with the most votes get to do it there way even if you dont agree. So get used to it were leaving.

John - you know my views on this but the stuff that's coming out now: Boris saying let's not be hasty, promises of repatriation of EU money into NHS and schools now being denied and now the immigration "policy" being revealed to be a load of tosh (See the Evan Davis interview) the foundation of the "leave" campaign has been found to be without substance. As you say, can't change it now, but it's clear to me the Leave campaign was "busking" the whole way through

To be honest irrespective of all the debates that took place the majority of people understood enough to make there own minds up, i thinķ that few people were swayed in their decision either sides arguments none of which stood up to scrutiny or based on proven fact.
Apparently Richard Branson isnt happy with the outcome, maybe he will leave the uk and take his billions with him to a tax haven, oops silly me he did that 20 years ago talk about hypocrite.

I've got no complaints about somebody like Richard Branson who has worked hard for his money doing whatever he wishes with it.I just hope that now we have voted to leave the EU the so called jobs that will be available in the Uk that people who have never done a days work in there lives will be forced to do so.
Otherwise we will have to bring in workers from other countries once again.

Yes. Bernard Matthews turkey place in Norfolk cannot get locals to get off the dole to do the work. They fly people in from abroad, provide accommodation and train them. Makes your blood boil.

I’m not an economist but would imagine that any Brits thinking of retiring will postpone any decision until more is known. Therefore, less demand for houses and prices will drop, so probably not a good time to be thinking of selling in the short term.
Mike
-
When is a good time Mike?
All the sales on our community in the last year have been to buyers from within the Eurozone.
The much predicted, but yet to be seen big drop in the value of sterling v the euro might be the ideal time for some to sell at a discounted price if they wish to head back to the uk.
Hope you're both enjoying your long stay

Well if we thought Friday was a turbulent day for UK politics today has proved to be even more so we now have (and this is as of 1815).
No PM, no Labour Party left Nicola sturgeon saying she may overrule the referendum in the Scottish Parliament David Lammay saying we should overrule it in a vote at Westminster . Boris is saying nothing and the EU are encouraging us to invoke clause 50 which makes it out in 2 years and cannot be reversed but at present no one has the guts to do it ..
God knows what will happen when the city opens tomorrow
It's a shambles
Come on step up to the plate the people spoke
-
Boris is dealing with important matters like who will be PM in 3 month's time. So don't blame him he has no time for minor matters like the EU.
-
& still no word on my library card!!!!!
-
Yes you certainly get the impression that Boris has already moved onto his real agenda ie becoming prime minister
It seems no one has a plan for how to move forward and no one has an clue what to do amazing !!!!
-
Yep, there's a strong possibility that the only tangible outcome of this referendum is that Boris Johnson will become our un-elected Prime Minister.

Just read this;
Not BREXIT but BREIN
A message from Ximo Puig the President of the Valencian Community.
Europe cannot be understood without the United Kingdom. The Europe which the world admires, is that which has been the hotbed of the brightest ideas of human thought for centuries. The Europe of Shakespeare, Newton, Darwin, Stuart Mill, Jane Austen, Dickens, John Lennon, Keynes.
The Europe of parliamentary democracy and freedom. The Europe which displaces the boundaries of art and knowledge, radiating creativity to the rest of the world. It is the Europe of peace after the war. From that peace has evolved the material that allows the real progress of peoples. In short, Europe has largely learned to be what it is, thanks to the UK.
In Valencia we understand this. More than 82,000 British citizens live with us. 89% of these in the province of Alicante. In 2015 more than 2 million Britons visited us. And their preferred destination was Alicante, especially Benidorm.
We export in value almost 3,000 million euros, and the UK is one of the main investors in Valencia Province. To all those, who live among us and to our visitors, the investors, the Generalitat Valenciana wants to send a message of calm and reiterate our affection and gratitude.
This message of tranquillity extends to our businesses, and to the thousands of people from Valencia who for work or for study reasons are in the UK.
The Valencian Community has been, is, and will be a welcoming land, a land that wants to do business for the benefit of all. Whatever the next chapter in Europe will be, we want it to be written with friendship and cooperation with the United Kingdom.
No political project is without its risks and challenges. Europe has to change, adapt and combine all identities and sensibilities. All forms of feeling European. Europe needs to regain its sense of being.
We have to once again make a reality of the quote of Jean Monnet. "We are not bringing together states, we are uniting people." We need to regain our passion for Europe. XIMO PUIG.

the last dying words that jesus uttered on the cross was ''FORGIVE THEM LORD FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO'' This sums up the euro vote.

Just saw on the bbc a labour mp who stated that as a parliamentarian he will vote against leaving the eu irrespective of the referendum result because he believes the people are wrong. Apparently the referendum was also now according to some only advisory and the result not necessarily binding. Who said democracy was alive clearly not in some labour constituencies.
-
Agree victor I don't think they will invoke clause 50 of the Lisbon treaty until they have had another few goes of making us give the "answer" they want and not the one the people voted for .wasnt my choice but I can't believe the post referendum behaviour of our so called "leaders". No moral fibre no honesty no balls ,!!!!

so if I understand correctly (a) the letter to Brussels is in the post but there might be a postal delay of some months (or years) and (b) but if Brussels decide this is undemocratic, art. 7 of the Treaty gets involved. Or in other words, England gets bumped out.
I suppose that is what Merkel meand when she said to go slow ...
-
Thats the clever thing article 50 came in 2009 and has not been used yet by any country. The detail in article 50 is really lacking with specifics on time scales etc, it is clearly open to interpretation which no doubt people on opposing sides will claim is the correct way forward. Clearly some eu countries are jealous of the uk being such a prosperous country and would take great pleasure in seeing us go under. Hopefully Britain will now unite and show the doomsayers we dont give in.

Ian Peisleys son already recommended everyone to take out an Irish passport, Scotland seems to be heading for the exit, and London seems quite ... uneasy.
I am sure (!) the EU court will have an opinion on art. 50 - after all, London has submitted to its jurisdiction :-)
So people vote to get out - and then we get "but we wait". Not really democratic, is it? (and no, not saying what I personally voted). Only see from the brexiters are serie of "we voted because we are againts ..." and never "because positively" ...
-
anyone interested in an Irish passport?

Whilst the Brexit vote was unexpected and has probably put our house purchase in GA on hold until the important stuff gets signed, I’m absolutely delighted that we are leaving the EU.
Naturally, the early days will be a bit bumpy, but we’ll soon ride it out.
I was in Italy last week and every single person I talked to was jealous of us.
Some of the comments from the remain camp have been so embarrassing. Especially from the youth who think that the older generation have sold them out and ruined their future….Why?
The future belongs to the young and they can shape it any way they like. They just need to get off their playstations and do something about it.
They need to remember that plenty 18 year olds went ‘over the top’ to certain death so that these ungrateful lot can moan.
As for Jimmy Krankie wanting Scotland to remain as a separate entity. Spain & France have already poured cold water on that little idea. There’s the small problem of the Basques wanting the same!
Sturgeon has now lost two referendums and is still moaning. I think she hasn’t quite grasped the whole idea of democracy.
We voted to leave the EU because the politicians wouldn’t listen to ordinary people. Now that we’re leaving, they’re still not listening.
Jeremy Hunt is now talking about a deal with Europe which could include freedom of movement.
The guy is truly deluded.
Bottom line……we voted………out won……deal with it….it’s called democracy!
Cheers
Davy !!!

, I can't believe the Scots are so gullible.
Don't tar us all with the same brush! ::)
-
Its been bugging me for years where i had seen that Scottish lady that was always banging on about things it was crackerjack. Seriously though and i say this as a person with scottish heritage, Scotland is a very small fish in the pond and whilst Jimmy talks very statesman like the reality is population size is quite small to count or carry much weight, when put into numbers 1.6 million scots voted remain with 1.1 voting leave which is hardly a landslide when you consider 17 million voted leave in England alone.
-
Is it Jimmy, or is it Nicola?
-
, I can't believe the Scots are so gullible.
Don't tar us all with the same brush! ::)
Sorry. There are some great things that come out of Scotland, Dundee cake,Irn Bru, the M6
I'll get ma bonnet.

It should be pointed out that more Scots voted to leave the EU than voted Sturgeon into office.
She's just on a power trip.....Now when do I get my wonky veg back?

Strictly speaking the poisoned one hasn't lost two referenda; it was the other trout Salmond who lost the first one although he was ably abetted by the poisoned one.

I think Nicola sturgeon is just an egotistical one dimensional leader who will never give up Scottish independence.
