We are currently with Gran Alacant TV and a little disappointed with the cost and too few channels. Can anyone advise the best way to go ?.
-
Hi - How many channels do you get?
-
We get BBC1 BBC2 ITV CHANEL 4+1 and BBCnews
-
This is something I am also looking at doing as I am with GATV and the cost is not worth the channels now there are a few options I can see
1 get a 1.1 metre dish put up will give you most of free sat U.K. Channels cost about €250 euros pros no more payments cons some channels fluctuate particularly in wind , dish looks horrid , satellites may move again as happened once before leaving it useless although this could be 10 years away
2 use an iPad PCs etc connected to tv over broadband with something like film on again access to most uk channels pros free if you have broadband cons again not guaranteed long term but works now tried it last week. Also if using iPad etc you may need a special lead to connect and it's a pain to change channels and you can't use PCs while to on.
3 get a dedicated TV over the Internet box , there are a few of these in GA now and you purchase a jail broken one for about €100 you will need to ask around about who sells them. Pros free and free access to premium channels ie sport and movies etc also can be taken to uk where it will have ability to watch 3pm sat football live cons may have adult channels unlocked , at some point sky etc will get them closed down but this could take years
4 GATV
5 Grannet fibre you community may have a 2.5 meter dish that can be accessed by a free sat box ask in Grannet
-
We got a box from Diginova. I'm not sure what it cost. We have a satellite dish that we share with our urbanisation as its massive (was on our roof when we bought the apt). We get loads of channels. Not sky sports/movies but sky news and more than enough other channels for us. Also we can plug a USB in - not an Amazon stick I dont think (haven't tried), but we put films on a usb to bring over in the summer. I do know it was a one off payment

Grandmalarkin, you might need a "retune", I get a lot more than that, although most of them are rubbish!!
I retuned ours a few weeks ago, there's about 20 tv channels and about the same number of radio channels, although as long as I've got Radio 2 I'm quite happy.

we have just moved here and are with grannet cant knock them they even came a day early to install everything very good service
-
Over the years so many tv systems have come and gone remember the mesh squarial. Anyway we installed over 12 years ago a 1.9m satellite dish with a redundant sky receiver bought over in hand luggage this system has provided free tv ever since irrespective of astra realignment which effects small dishes the 1.9 picks up on the fringe of the uk footprint, you even get all the different regional stations from cornwall to Scotland if seeing local news is your thing. Were now on sky plus with all the channels you get in the uk, the only downside is the dish size fortunately we dont use the roof that much so the dish is floor mounted virtually out of sight.
-
Anybody know if the communal dish on the Serenas is capable to picking up freesat. There is a sat socket in my living room and master bedroom
-
We don't bother with UK TV when in GA. We are connected to the urb. feed so can watch the news in Spanish - great for picking up the lingo. However most Spanish TV is dire. We sometimes borrow DVDs from the library. BBC Radio 4 is our way of keeping up with UK affairs and we can use the laptop to watch PMQs on 'http://www.parliamentlive.tv/Commons' if we need a good laugh or shout.

-
If you bring a sky plus box from the uk will it work in GA?
-
It will as long as you have a 1.1 m or larger dish and you have to change some settings in the engineers menu which I think are frequency and polarity ( these auto change back if powered off )
-
Here;s your solution. Works through Tinternet. Global tv and sports stations and films also.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/COOLEAD-Wireless-keyboard-Streaming-Entertainment/dp/B017IGYKG8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464974079&sr=8-1&keywords=m8s
-
Nothing wrong with Spanish tv. Most new tv's in Spain have a language button on remote and it is possible to default a lot of the programs to English.
-
In relation to redundant sky receivers bought over from uk ,several years ago you did have to alter the frequency as it defaults to factory uk setting. Not sure if it coincided with astra satellite change but we now for several years leave it on the uk default setting as the signal received is so strong same as the uk. From what ive read it all comes down to size matters if there's a signal transmitting it can be received, over many years certain tv installers have sold systems that just about work in the current climate, any frequency or satellite realignment and they all become scrap overnight.

I can confirm this is a good option, brought ours over on our last visit for the kids (invaluable for the hotest part of the day). As long as you've a reasonable internet speed it's perfect and offers so much more than live British TV!

Hi Dave can you get the live premiership for free?
-
Yes Spurs,All live games also on demand sport ie:boxing
-
Hi Dave can you confirm it works in spain when you try it, also what type of tv have you got in spain, is it a smart TV or just a normal one ???
Cheers
Steve
-
Hello Steve, the tv in Spain is a smart tv.but the TV I am using with the box at the moment is just an ordinary hd ready tv . You just connect the small box with a hd cable, then connect the box to your internet with either wifi or Ethernet. Its really simple all the apps are preloaded & you can add more.It actually turns your TVs into a smart tv.

Im no techno so bear with me, in the uk ive got a now tv box im assuming these boxes with kodi work on the same principle but can they provide all sky channels cost free
-
They work by streaming. They have many different applications on them that stream all films, tv shows. New and old. You can find hundreds of different applications that show different stuff. Certain ones are just for sports, films and shows. You can get all of the U.K. TV channels on them. Along with the sky channels. There are no subscriptions.
If you put android box how to use into google or YouTube you should get a better idea of how they work.

Have been streaming on my computer from the internet for a few years now. Certain channels have every bit of sport and ALL football matches. You can then either cable to your tv to watch on a big screen, or buy a box out here, which we did, that does the same thing. The box is plugged into your tv and internet. Thousands of films and sport channels. You can also go into the internet as on your computer and even access your emails on the big screen, or of course anything at all. The boxes are advertised in the local papers out here. We bought the box and the guy installed it for 160 euro. No monthly fees. So, buy the box out here.

Dave I forgot to ask you who your broadband suppliers are, would it be possible to give me the contact details and prices
Cheers Steve
-
We are its having internetputin. How does thisKodi box connect please?
-
I have a standard 1.4m dish coupled with an Openbox V8S which is excellent and receives all the Freeview channels. Superb quality and many in HD.
I have the same system in the UK on a standard 600mm Sky dish. It connects to my wifi at home and it is possible to get all the sports, films and other scrambled channels for 10 euros a month. It cost £38 off ebay including the wifi antenna.
-

Hello Steve,
Through recommendations on the forum & enquiring myself, I worked out that the best for me was Granalacant tv.Because I have a holiday home it means I don't need the Internet on at all times so whenever you are going over to Spain you just email them & they turn it on for you, there are other companies that also do this for you but charge you for this.Thats why I am gonna go for them. You will find there details in the GA advertiser.
Dave

Thanks Dave
-
got my wizard box today fairly easy to set up you just need to leave it alone when connected to the broadband for about half an hour while it updates all the add ons etc .
Once it settled in its great picture quality is hd or better it has loads of uk channels loads of films including latest releases etc and hundreds of box sets available it will also give access to uk 3 pm kick offs on a Saturday have not tried it in Spain but i expect it to be as good there
Well pleased and only £42 including postage

That's great Spurs

Can you record on this kodi/wizard box and can you pause/rewind live TVs like you can on a sky box?
-
I don't think you can record or pause but it does have attachment holes for flash drives so you might be able to record to them
-
I've been able to pause on mine. But you can't record on it.
-
Tried my wizard to box today worked great no issues at all I think this may be the way to go
-
Hi all I took my wizard to box to spain last week worked ok , freezing and buffering a little bit but will have a play around with it next time.
Steve
-
Did you check the speed of your internet ?
There were big problems last week with Iberdola shutting off power etc.
You can usually get a faster speed on your internet if you ask your provider to bump it up but this may cost more.
Joe
-
Sorry just seen reply, I'm with Grannet I will contact them to see what speed I've got,
Keep you posted
Steve
-
If you want to check try www.speedtest.net/, this has been recommended by a number of major players e.g. Netflix
Mike
-
I get 35Mpsl on Grannet
-
Is that good ??????
-
It's not bad, you can do most things on half that amount but it was playing up over the last day or so.
-
Bought the Wizard box in UK, brought it out to Spain and I'm now a convert. Get all the channels and it's easy to use, currently going through Game of Thrones from Series I as we couldn't get this in UK as we were with Virgin. Had a few initial issues but on their site the FAQ section is very thorough and fixed the problem.
You can also download other links/sites e.g. http://rainierland.com/, where you can watch latest movies. Don't know how they get hold of them but last week saw "Sully" (with Tom Hanks) which isn't released until Xmas.

After seeing Mikes Wizard Box this morning I'm buying one, I was impressed!!
I nipped to see Asun at GATV to see if I could get 10mbs from my "internet dish", I can.
Asun informed me that the small mesh receiver I currently use to watch TV on will not be supported by them for much longer.
I don't want a 1.3 metre dish on my roof so it looks like this is the way to go.
Thanks Mike

Hi john my wizard tv box is great the best bit for me is that i can take it in hand luggage back and forth to Spain in the uk we use it for films box sets etc and mainly the live 3 pm football
If Gatv are not going to support the microwave system much longer I will cancel it next time I am out
-
If you want to get a Wizard box you may have to act sooner rather than later. As these units effectively allow the transmission of copyrighted material there is a court case pending where they may be deemed illegal, see http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-37474595. Albeit I'm sure they'll probably come out with a workaround to the sale of the units.

I would recommend joining the wizzard tv & kodi help group on Facebook, excellent info on there, after a recommendation on there I downloaded mobdro streaming app onto my wizzard tv box it gives you some more options for streaming live sport & movies
Dave

Cheers Guys, on your recomendations I bought a Kodi box from Amazon, only £30.00
Took about five minutes to get it out of the box and up and running............I thought what a load of tosh!!
Apart from lots of pornography that worked great sod all else would let me watch anything at all, it nearly went in the bin.
I spent an hour on the internet reading various pages and watched a few videos on YouTube, I then deleted virtualy all the add-ons and installed 123 Movies, Exodus, UK Turks playlist, FilmOn and a few more...........the result brilliant!!
We only have about 5Mbs here in the UK, but we are watching the latest film at HD quality with no buffering
At the £30 price I'm going to order another, one for Spain and one for here.
My internet provider here in the UK blocked my access to rainerland, I'll have a go at getting it in Spain.
Regards all and thanks to those who made me aware of Kodi!!
John
-
You can just buy a fire stick from Amazon which you then just put Kodi and add ones you want like exodus , sports devil etc. All you need to do then is plug the fire stick into an HDMI slot on your TV. The firestick is very small and easy to just put in your pockets.
-
You can also download Kodi onto your laptop which is quite useful if 'someone' is hogging the tv ;)
-
Do you end up with lots of ads and popups?
-
None

None on the laptop either.
-
I continued my "learnings" last night re how to use it, on Turks latest TV shows they have The Young Pope, excellent quality, set as a favourite to watch letter.
Who needs a sky subscription!!

We've found the picture quality is great for movies, tv shows etc but not as good for live football , so may Keep sky sports but cancel movies etc. However if it's free I may live with the football not as clear.

Can you get the premier league matches on it?

Have been using an Android box for over 2years now and love using the tutorials in YouTube to get the most out of the box.while I find kodi good especially exodus add on .there are however a couple of Android apps that are just as good outside kodi. Showbox , cartoon hd , and as mentioned before mobdro. Mobdro is good for live tv but can't always get to work without buffering .however when using thru Android box. I find it better when I use from my Samsung phone to chromecast on telly.never buffers. Enjoying following this thread and maybe a section on forum could be dedicated to topic
-
Forgot to mention that both showbox and cartoon hd on a mobile smartphone allows you to download movies and box sets and can be watched offline . Handy for a plane journeys

John,
We currently enjoy all the premiership on BT. We get the sky channels as well, but are unable to get the HD stuff.
Box was a 1offfrom eBay with 3 year "gift package" ie all unscrambled, for £60. Have bought the same & fitted in Cornwall. All the sport, all the movies, but after a month or so, you realise the "couch potato," syndrome is a real possibility, & you tend to fight your way back to a real world where people exist the other side of their mobiles, & the power of speech still exists.
Old fart?
Yes & happy to be so

Hi chaps, have a satellite dish that can probably be spotted from space on top of our house for tv which seems to do its job but would like the Saturday footie and a bit extra such as film channels.
Would a kindle firestick loaded with Kodi work OK out in Spain ?(does it do the same as a Wizard box?)
Paul
-
I recommend a move to La Marina, and if that doesn't clear up your reception, Manchester ;)
-
Paul - simple answer is yes. The Wizard box has Kodi loaded on it as standard

I've just received an email from GATV informing me that the TV I receive from them via the small dish will be no longer available as of the 31st December
Asun did tell me that it would be being terminated when I spoke to her in October
Luckily my £30 Kodi box is proving to be a great buy and will meet our viewing needs in GA

Can recommend a firestick loaded with Kodi. You are then able to stream all football matches from the big leagues.
As well as tons of movies / tv shows / live tv from all over the world

I posted earlier how good they are, cant help feeling the bubble is going to burst so dont invest too much in them (they are cheap so no big loss)
The reason for my long term bleak outlook .... are they not "pirating" and file-sharing programmes ? Where is it "legal" to watch a live Premier League games in the UK or Spain or a movie that is only just at the cinema now ?
If you are paying £35 to £55 fair enough .... but dont go mad !

Completely off subject, if you're looking for a brilliant film to watch try Hacksaw Ridge, we watched it on the Kodi last night.
I will safely predict I won't see a better film in 2017.

I Victor - the copy I saw last week was 1080p and came out fine (on Exodus) - had to search for a couple of days to get it in 1080p as sometimes the source file drops off
