Title: On a windy day.....
Post by: John H on May 28, 2016, 13:59.
......don't you just hate your neighbours bougainvillea!!
I put one in years ago, against the advice of a Spanish neighbour, every time  we visited I ended up covered in cuts as I tried to prune it!!
After 5 years I took it out, we haven't bought a box of Elastoplast since.
They look great on someone's house 20 yards away!!

Regards all

I too planted one , went home and returned three months later to find it near top of house and inside the balcony shutter, cut it down and treated it with brush wood killer and killed it stone dead, the lifeless stump sat there for there years  and then erupted into life, a resurrection if I ever saw one, still can't understand it.

I thought you were living it up in Albir
We went there the other day, lovely clean resort, good shops, decent sea front cafes, we gave it 9 out of 10!!
Couple of gorgeous billionaires motor yachts moored just off shore.
Enjoy the painting

Like you john we have had several bougainvillea over the years along with small palms and other shrubs, one by one they have all bit the dust. The climate in spain is really hard and if your not there from one month to the other things quickly dry out and become a major prune each visit.

For me it's been trial and error, although of late a Spanish neighbour who is an avid gardener gives me guidance and buys plants for us!!
He won't take a cent for them, he does it because "we are good neighbours"
Love him
