Great interesting read that article. Have also found this one near Elche which is well worth a look, has good reviews on trip advisor. http://www.vinosladama.com

Found an informative site with plenty of information regarding vineyards and wineries in the Alicante area at  www.vinosalicantedop.org/en/winery-locations/

Enrique Mendoza Vineyard near Alfaz del Pia on N332 towards Benidorm / Altea is an excellent place to visit. We did it a couple of years ago, you have to book they show you the vines etc how they started and the cellars and manufacturing area. Very informative and you get to try about 6 different wines in a lovely shop on site. You get the opportunity to buy the wine and their own unique wine glasses. Think if I remember it was about € 12 or €14 a person. While your takes about 2 hours

Some good links there, thanks for replies. Going look into one in Elche and one on way to Benidorm on N332. There's no wine in the world to touch Spanish Tinto  :D

South African Pinotage perhaps. You can live on it.

Just saw this thread, for anyone still interested take a drive out to Pinoso, you'll drive past loads of little bodegas all selling independent producers. The coop at El Pinos is worth a look, as is Bodegas Volver which makes a really top notch red called "Tarima'. Cheers.
