I was driving to the market yesterday and was telling the wife about this guy when he suddenly crossed the road in front of us wearing exactly the same clothes as in the photo. I couldn't stop as someone was right up my backside (why do they do that in GA).
By the time I'd turned around the roundabout and went back he'd vanished. I'll be looking out for him though!

Well done  dleafy, I have also had a report from someone who was behind his car yesterday heading towards Arenales, and I've been given details of a German registered blue hatchback beginning with OS which I know from my army days as being from Osnabruck which is believed to be his vehicle, I will update my Guardia Civil friend and see what happens.
Keep your eyes peeled for him .

Update from the chap who was behind him going towards Arenales, he was driving a light blue Daewoo Matiz with a German registration plate beginning UL -- --- which is from Southern Germany.
So possible he has 2 cars to keep an eye out for.

This chap was seen on Wednesday in upper GA still trying his luck, and seen getting into a light Blue Matiz with German plates,so be alert. And there is some local press interest with one of the papers asking for details  which will hopefully make people more aware.

The leader are doing an article on our chap next week, it's in the Playa Flamenca version this week (editor problems) for some reason.
And there was a burglary overnight up the hill at 4.30am, details to follow.

I reckon we'll have a golf course and a hotel in Arenalas before this chap is off the streets.

Not sure we'll have decided what Brexit means though

Hi Frank oder Karl-Heinz,

you might be watching this discussion. And you still owe me 45 Euros. I found that you've been acting like this for more than 10 years:

http://www.torrevieja.co.uk/torrevieja-forum/12/7817?p=69978&hilit=scam#p69978

How does it feel? You're clever, you do have some sort of charme (although I didn't fell for it), you speak excellent German without accent (from Hannover'?), you can obviously imitate a Dutch accent. You could apply for German social help, but why running around in these beautiful places on the Spanish coast and telling lies? (The German social system ensures that you have a flat and enough money to buy food and clothing, you have medical insurance, but of course it doesn't cover holiday trips or drugs more expensive than beer or cheap vodka.)

Would you rather if it were so, that you had a flat down there, had been robbed, had a wife and two young children? I simply can't understand. And your teeth need a dentist, that's the first thing I noticed about your appearance. So these 40 Euros here, 40 Euros there can't be a real income. (Ok, perhaps you have a phobia to visit the dentist, and it's not a question of money.)

I have one more question. Did you take two (cheap) cigarette lighters from my flat? There's nothing else worth taking there, you might have recognized.

I was disappointed about myself, silly me, not recognizing that you are a guy who wants to take me in. Apart from wanting money, there were a lot of these guys around in the 80ies in Germany.

-------------------------

@all

As to the beggar in front of Lidl with the cute doggie, I approached him and asked, if he knew 'Karl-Heinz'. But seems to be a different thing. He says he's Polish, but speaks German very well. (So accents and languages may be confused or faked  ...) He has a place to live, he simply wants to buy 2 beers a day and food for the dog. I gave him one Euro, but as soon as I got to my car, I saw a man approaching him, (not a client of Lidl).

Is this organized 'beggaring'? The guy with the dog is doing his job, between 1 and 3 or so he has 'siesta', but his boss gets the most of the money? I found an article in a German paper about beggars with dogs. Of course the dogs are mostly more attractive than the beggars with cartons saying, I have no job, and so people are more inclined to give some money for their well-being. But when the puppies get older, they are left somewhere on the street ...

I don't know what to make of all this. Ok, in Eastearn Europe people are more helpless, if they don't have a job, but as for Germany I'd say it's a voluntary decision to choose a life like this. If you're in psychogical trouble, you could as well find help without paying for this, on the condition, that you're intelligent, and our 'conman' obviously is.

Next time I go to Lidl or elseware, I'll buy some dogfood or a beer or a chocolate bar. The boss will be angry ...

I have seen that guy outside lidl driving a Blue Polish plated Merc , he doesn't like it when I say "Chesch". As for the conman it appears he has been at it for a very long time.

He was in front of me at the checkout (Mercadona).  He counted out 1 euro & 66 cents for 2 litre white wine boxes, & nothing else.
Would have thought there were higher priorities, but hey-ho.

Just seen in Periodico Santa Pola whilst looking for any details re Grannet;

The Local Police of Santa Pola, during the last week, arrested eight individuals for different reasons, including careless robberies, theft in supermarkets, searches and catches for breaches of restraining orders. In the latter cases, specifically, one due to gender violence and another to stay away from schools (the detainee was not local). Through the Department of Public Safety and the Police Headquarters has proceeded to increase the number of identifications and controls on the public road for crime prevention both in the center of town and in Gran Alacant. The priority objective is to increase the level of prevention in view of the possible committing of criminal acts on certain dates, such as Christmas, which due to its commercial character and the dynamization of the population is more susceptible for those who want to make their August in December .
In Gran Alacant, prevention work will be important, through selective safety checks. Controls for the detection of drivers who are under the influence of alcoholic beverages will also be increased. They remember that the drink and the driving are incomplatibles, so they advise the figure of the designated driver and the use of public transport.

I doubt that the poor lad who needs cash to pay the locksmith will have been aprehended.

Regards all

John
