gas fire
« on: October 18, 2016, 19:46. »
I am considering having a gas fire installed. There is a chimney and it is important that the fire be of the type where the combustion gases are sent up the chimney. The gas will have to be bottled gas and the bottle can be stored outside in the drive by the chimney breast. The fireplace itself is a large rectangular hole with chamfered edges at the back which I believe is a standard shape.

Has anybody had anything similar installed? Does anybody know where I might find out more?

thanks

Check to see whether nothing else has been vented into the chimney other wise it will need tubing

There is nothing else venting into this particular chimney. There are various other vertical flues in the house that vent extractors etc. but not this one.

There may be a requirement for a flue insert anyway because of the dimenisons of the chimney but I would expect an installer to be able to advise. The requirements may not be as stringent as for a woodburner.

Thanks for your comment.
