Licence to be a cabbie €100,000
« on: January 29, 2015, 15:33. »
A Spanish neighbour here in GA has recently been studying to be a taxi driver
I asked him today how his exam had gone, he passed........which led me to ask why he isn't driving a cab
It transpires that now he's passé  he has to get a licence, the cost €100,000
Being nosey I asked him how much he could expect to clear a month.......after the costs of running the car he reckoned on about €2,000 a month
Not sure it's a career choice I'd be taking

Regards all

John

Wow, no wonder they get grumpy about people doing a 'bit on the side'.

I heard on the TV yesterday that your national insurance, if you go self-employed, is €260 per month irrespective of your income. That's quite a disincentive if you are starting out and struggling to make money initially. I know the government has to raise cash but with these sort of figures, it's not going to kick-start the private sector anytime soon.
