Snake in the Grass
« on: July 01, 2018, 10:40. »

Hi there, just sharing our Friday evening experience!!!!
Sitting in our garden, along comes an (approx) metre long snake. Dark green in colour and quite slim. It climbed our wall and settled in an empty house next door behind some plant pots and artificial grass fencing. We were unsure what to do so rang the vet who said “Spanish snakes are not dangerous”. So asked advice of a past President of our Urb who in turn asked a neighbour to ring her policeman husband, who said that we must ring in to the police and report this matter. Unfortunately the police required a photo of the snake before they would visit which was not too easy. Anyway after some poking and prodding the snake woke up but unfortunately climbed the wall back into our garden. By this time quite a crowd had gathered so there was some excitement and ‘screaming’ I think that was me!! But just managed to get a photo which was sent on to police. They arrived but by this time the snake had settled into a drainage hole in our garden wall and was well and truly hidden. So, as last resort the police pushed plastic bags into drainage holes on our garden side and said that snake would escape in the night onto the road side, and just go on it’s way!!! So, we currently have to keep front door closed and constantly on snake alert and just wished it had been found. Anyway folks, we live on Canarias 6 on the road lower down to the old market street, so keep an eye out and if you spot it you need to take photo and ring the police. Probably quite harmless but not something you want in your property. Sorry photo is not too good, the snake is on wall just next to hosepipe. Well, I was running away at the time, such a wuz!!!!!

Keeps the rodent numbers down but is of course not a pleasant sighting for most of us. There are som venomous snakes in spain but usually they are in the mountains. By your description it sounds like a montpelliet snake that have a few different green colorations. More people die from wasps then snakes in spain every year (3-6)
