Hi Dave, we've spent a few nights in Bilbao when we've been getting the ferry back to Portsmouth
Very busy place, the traffic is a nightmare!!
In all honesty we prefer Santander just down the coast, a bit more genteel
The country side in that area is fantastic, in our view the best in Spain.

Hello john, we've never taken the ferry we have always flown over.But at some time in the future we will.we live in Belfast so it would be that much further for us but we will definately do it at some stage. I have been told before how beautiful the Santander country side is , so would love to go and see it.

I'll go with that.  It's quite like Cornwall with the beaches, cliffs & countryside.  Would recommend Cavadonga if you're up that way as well as Santander itself.

Forgot to say; another similarity with Cornwall, if you go in the winter, it RAINS with a vengeance.
