Guadamar

Don't know if will continue to function, but a while ago we enjoyed an informative & inexpensive half a day in Guadamar.  (We've all been there, but what might we have missed?)
If you visit the Tourist Info website, you'll be able to find the day for an English spoken guided tour.  This consisted of a video at the back of their office, followed by a tour by the train to the castle, the nursery for pines, the old Moorish site, the dunes & the tiled wall bordering the dunes.
We were particularly fortunate in having as a guide, a Scots lady who worked for the tourist office.  She is passionate about the place & really knows her stuff.
There's lots to discover about the devastation by earthquake, & the threat which still exists of the town being buried by drifting sand.  This latter is why the children every year visit the dunes to plant pines to stabilise the sand.
Worth a visit if you're feeling bored.
On a separate note, never been to the railway exhibition at Torreallano.  Anyone been?  If so, opinions please.

The Torellano Exhibition is nowhere near as good as similar places in the UK, but it is a start.

Wish they'd move that steam loco from the middle of Elche to Torellano, it would make more sense to put it there and become less neglected than it is.

Thanks for that Mark.
For our Autumn break this year we did a cultural Agean tour in Turkey.  There is a railway museum near Ephesus (Calik) that houses 33 old steam locomotives.  Interesting, but sad to see them rusting away & falling apart from lack of attention.  Will try Torreallano some time, but conscious of your comments.
