Just got our residencia cards which we carry everywhere so does that mean we don't have to carry our passports whilst drving just our driving license.

I never carry my passport around with me as it would be too much trouble to replace if lost or stolen. I have a laminated (credit card size) card with the passport one side and the EHIC the other, which I have shown with no problem to the Feds. I always carry my driving Licence and have even shown them a photo of my passport which was fine.
