Title: What an eye sore
Post by: John H on January 12, 2017, 18:25.
On my morning beach walk I went past the back of the "reformation site" of the deralict hotel in Arenalas, what a mess.

Pipe work from the site running, I hope, drainage water into the sea.

Discarded pipe work scattered over the beach

Graffiti covered hoardings

The site looking like its been abandoned, not even a security guard on duty as there was when I last took a look in October.

I reckon the developer has pulled the plug

Regards all

Looks a right mess don't think it's changed in 4 months I reckon it's time to call in the bulldozers

Thanks for the photos John, it does look abandoned all right.

The sign on the green netting by the drain pipe says temporary sea water drainage, if it was anything nasty it would be "aguas negras"

John let's be honest this was always going to be a disaster
The building had been left standing for decades and the chance of saving any of it was remote
The council need to bulldoze it as everyone can move on

Cheers Mike, I must admit to not even reading it.

Ash, I have to agree, Ive never understood who would want to book a stay in a hotel in Arenalas

Its a pity that the authorities weren't flexible and let them start from scratch, the result now is a bigger eyesore than before

The problem is that a new build in that position would be illegal under current legislation.  The council would be acting illegally if they granted planning permission on that basis.  The developers knew this, but tried to bend the rules by demolishing the existing structure behind their curtains.  They got found out, and as a result, no one wins, and Arenales is the loser.
