Good luck to the new owners, does anyone know what the new venture is going to be i assume not a bar as the previous ones have never really done that well, and something different might have a chance.

May be jumping to the wrong conclusion but we passed by this evening and going by the fliers outside - karaoke etc - it seems like more of the same. Didn't go in but it was empty (21.30)

Non the less, we wish them well.

We was speaking to Ann recently and aparantly it is to remain a bar. We also heard that Roger from Barloko has bought Big Al's in Masa Sq - don't know the details as to why he is leaving Barloko but wish him well with his new venture.

If true thats a shame that he's moving from Loko - or perhaps the empire is expanding !!

Personally I would like someone to take on the old E'Spigo - thats got potential (if MASA makes the rent reasonable)

Purely an assumption but guessing that Rogers going solo,if so he knows his trade and has a large loyal customer base. Wish him all the best. I recall going to big Als for breakfast several years ago after it had opened, the lady who ran it was quite rude and unappealing, never set foot in the place again, whenever walking past always quiet so maybe others felt the same.

It could be a rumour but I have heard from a few different people now and it is definitely not an expansion of the bar! Also heard Zest management are not on speaking terms!

Alison says it how it is, and along with Brendan and the rest of the clan are one of the warmest and friendliest families ive ever met, they will be sorely missed around Masa Square.
So where do you go for a drink Victor im intrigued?.

Not jumping to conclusions but judging by the lack of customers every time i walked past, i would say the "say it as it is " approach clearly hasnt done much to expand the business.
As for where i frequent Llamedos, in GA we go to lots of places it normally depends on time of day and time of year, a place thats nice in april during the day can be hell on an evening in august. We normally try and avoid the locations the tourists go to in july/august, anyone wearing a football shirt, women with tatoos and some of the expat community who should have turned left out of the airport towards benidorm.

Ha Ha the one thing i dont mis about Ga after 10 years there .Is the good old Ga Chinese whispers.99% of the time it is total rubbish. Just like the Roger buying Big Als If he is he has forgot to tell Alison.LOl

Ha Gunner , it might be that Brendan has sold it and forgotten !!? to tell Allison  and spent the money for an injury fund for Andy Carroll ! lol  :)

Gunner you may be right about chinese whispers, therefore if big als isnt for sale and theyre staying open till this time next year a small wager methinks. Should be an easy win for you !

It seems like Maricia has some good sources.
Roger has just announced this on Facebook;

So with all the gossip that's going around GA at the minute just going to clear things up! Yes it is true I'm no longer part of Barloko and would like to wish Jimmy all the best for the future.
I am currently looking at other bars in GA but NOTHING is signed with ANY bar but as soon as I have I will let you all know!! See you all very soon x

I'd like to see something really smart done with the old E'Spigo - you could bet the rent for Masa would be more than 700 e though.

We loved the way this place had been done when we visited our son in Tenerife.

http://www.sealoungepalmmar.com/

Not everyone's taste as it was a couple of cents more for a drink but I'd always pay a bit more for quality

The E'Spigo site would be perfect for something like that

Agreed Rich
We need something like this in this part of GA-especially since both L'Espigo closed and the Norwegian restaurant ceased trading.Always nice to pop in for a nightcap!!

It's the sort of place Mrs H and I would go to.
Most of the bar/cafe (I can't bring myself to call them restaurants) owners seem to go for the same make it cheap big portions end of the market.
We'd rather have one night out in a "quality" establishment then three nights in the all too common plastic chairs and paper serviettes end of the market

An establishment to "posh" speak for yourself, thats the problem a desire to drag the area down to benidorm level everything being cheap and tacky. Thats what drew most original owners, that GA was unspoilt by the lager drinking, chip throwing element from the uk.

As for Maykas kitchen I was in there the other evening and the food I had was OK but didn't blow me away as the ribs were a bit fatty, and the service was a bit erratic with mains arriving before all the tapas, and drinks being missed out. Maybe early teething problems but I won't write them off straight away.

That's useful, soon every unit in GA will be bar transitioning between owners :) In fairness one Roger will likely equal two bars in that square :)

Ooh, do I get a prize!.

For getting it wrong?! I thought Roger was turning the old Masa office (in Masa Sq) from an existing office to a bar. I understand that someone who has something to do with the GA magazine has purchased the old Hole in the Wall and the guy who writes blogs for them is going to run it - but this could be good old fashioned GA gossip!

If Roger is taking over the old Masa office, will they be renaming the square in his honour? Perhaps we should start a petition...

Who Mr Masa or Roger.

Be open in a couple of weeks, judging by the progress being made.

A good sized bar

Rogers buzzing this afternoon , very busy everyone enjoying mr bojangles singalong, great service and hospitality from roger and his team.
In respect of earlier posts from members who claim to know whats going on and laughing at chinese whispers, i notice big als is for sale ooh thats a shocker, like trump says its all fake news, vested interests etc.

That's the thing with masa square a bar can piggyback another bar's  entertainment, saying that big al has put up some sort of screen, im not sure whether thats to keep people in or out.

Oh yes, and you can use the Cava to wash down your deep fried Black Pudding/Haggis or deep fried Mars bar.
All at cheaper prices than UK.
Someone's bliss lol.

Like most things in life, everything in small measures, on sunday group of us started at Rogers for a few beers, followed by cracking carvery at the belfry followed by more beer at rogers enjoying crazy kevs singalong then finished off with chips from derbys. Would i do this every week of course not, i love traditional spain and its food but every once in a while benidorm beckons.
