Hi I’ve seen a article in the GA advertiser saying the market is moving down near the Gabe market / the new Aldi, is this the market up the top of the hill or is this another, and is it true. ??

Thanks

It's fascinatingly vague! What on earth is "near the Gabe market / the new Aldi" supposed to mean? In one of their car parks is doubtful.... so the "weird" streets they built between them? The streets of the urbanisation behind? I must be out of the loop but what then is happening to our glorious, perfectly positioned (haha) custom-built market up the hill then?

The position of any market is essential for good business, the location at the top of GA does exclude a lot of people, who may have mobility issues, no means of transportation or simply can’t be blessed with catching the bus/train up the hill. Many moons ago this location was fiercely debated, it’s initial location wasn’t ideal but slightly better located, the current place was always bonkers with limited access and no parking but clearly the decision makers knew best and spent a big chunk of our money creating the market area. I quite like occasionally mooching the wares but prefer the Santa Pola Saturday and Monday. I can’t imagine either Aldi or the tat bazaar won’t it on there doorstep as direct competitors.

In the June GA Advertiser, a question was posed to our local councillor Oscar Valenzuela, thus:

In last month's magazine it mentions that the market is moving to "CJ5". Can Oscar clarify where CJ5 is?

The response was - CJ5 is around Avenida Norvega where Gabe, Aldi and the Church are located.

At least it confirms what we already knew, but exactly where the market will be remains a bit of a puzzle.

Still none the wiser, whet into Gabe last week, I can’t see any flat / waste ground around that area.

CJ5 is massive. It covers the entire area starting at the GA Center all the way along to the school. It jsut doesn't "cross over" the main road (Norweuga) so it could even be in the streets of the urb "behind" Aldi. (Brisa del Mar I believe) - whe whole thing is excitingly secret! haha

They have been putting portacabins where the market is, rumours are they are going to be used until the new school is built.

The (cough) "temporary" high-school is going on the market land. The market traders were actually quite pleased about that, because they've never liked it there on their purpose build, very expensive market site. They always wanted to be at the bottom of the hill (you know.... next to the HUGE road haha). So they were pleased, and were told they were going to an area near the Gabe market. None of us ever understood how that was going to happen - and indeed it's not going to happen. The market is going to stay more or less where it is, by cannibalising its own car park - genius. It's a win win... sorry lose lose for everyone.
Remember, the temporary school going in place at the market is the temporary high school - plans for that school have not even started. It is NOT the temporary version of the school being built right now at the back of Carabasi.... the temporary version of THAT school are the portacabins next the existing school that were there more than ten years.
Of course, the genius decision to build a new primary school next to Carabasi, without having already started the road infrastructure is without question. No one in their right mind would have even considered the massive tract of land next to the existing school - since that has to be used once a year as a gypsy mud pit for 4x4's. :D

Great post GVT .. Its amazing that the council can about turn quite so quickly. Was it not in the July edition of GAadvertsier "the counciller responsible" said it was going down to the Bajo area ?

The temp / perm / temp school stuff must be a nightmare for the locals with kids to work out where they will end uyp
