Thievies about once again
« on: February 14, 2017, 23:02. »
Hi All
Woke this morning Valentines day, looking forward to our daily outing to lighthouse N332 back to lighthouse & home ( one hour most days depends on  wind!!,) stepped outside to find that my bike was missing but my wife's was still there. We live on the outside of an Urb up hill in GA but our  where bikes were stored  on inside, in front pool side inside of a locked Urb that needs devises to gain access.
Cycles in our patio double locked with in out meter high wall, but that did not stop the person, my bike is worth several time more than my wife's , so that explains something, first visit was to Local Police ( having a rest from lollipop duties) next to Altomar 2, advised as expected to report to Guardia Civil Santa Pola, (officers went back to coffee and internet ditties).
Next visit our administrators office on Altomar 2 ( universal Santa Pola), lots of sympathy but please give us the police report from Guardia civil, they ask, but Urb. insurance does not cover, yes we do have building and insurance with a well known British named agent in Santa Pola.
The lady at agent is very accommodating & is very sympathetic but not as accommodating  as she was this time last week when visited on our bikes & we paid our annual 430 Euro for house and contents.
Next stop was Guardia Civil in Santa Pola waiting 1 hour 20 mins to meet officer with no one waiting, but dealt with by him given report for any one who wants to see and told that they were to visit crime scene 16 00 to 1800 this evening ( still waiting).
Tomorrow I will of course pass on the police report to all who have asked me for a copy but goodness me none were prepared to help, we know that I have lost a cycle that I paid more for than my couple of cars in the 70,s .
Lost a friend(bike ) lost money but reconfirmed that insurance is waste of time administrators are only here to please committee and local residents, we on our own here people take money and no returns

Bloody hell Jim €430 contents and property insurance, you must have one hell of a place!!
I'm not surprised at your administrators attitude as I wouldn't have thought it had anything to do with them.......unless I'm missing something
Hope you get your bike back or a payout from your insurance

Regards all

John

Bad luck Jim, there seems to be an increase in crime at the moment, I heard a house was almost emptied of its contents down in the GA centre last week.
Be vigilant and buy expensive locks.

Everyone should check their insurance and understand what it covers. My understanding of "contents", literally means what's inside the house, not within the garden walls. Bikes are a nightmare and we have a few! Ours are locked in a brick building which has a normal front door and a security grill, it's actually more secure than most houses here! However, our bikes are not covered unless they are inside the actual house, and not covered if they are stolen whilst we are out on them. You can get a specific bike insurance which is worth looking at. Really scrutinise your policies people, from what I understand you are not covered if you leave your door unlocked and someone sneaks in whilst you are upstairs for example - very different from UK!

The same lady and her husband and sister gave us the most brilliant service imaginable a few years ago when we wrote our car off in an accident.
They held our hand and guided us through the entire process including many things out of their remit........translating letters from the courts, telling us the action we had to take etc etc.
Without their assistance and guidance it would have been a very stressful situation, it made me realise why you use the services of an insurance broker.
I would have thought that if you had expensive items either kept in the house or in the garden you would enquire at the time of buying your policy if they were covered or not and then be advised of extra payments and or security measures you would have to take.
Most if not all policies now a days are written in a format that makes it very easy to check your responsibilities to mitigate any claims and what your actual lever of cover is.  One of my friends has a policy (in Spain) that clearly states that his water system should be closed and drained down over the winter, he didnt follow this and his claim for a water leak was rightly rejected.

I will continue to use the services of our friend in Santa Pola and wholeheartedly recomend her to others.

I phoned Linda Rowland earlier this month with a problem regarding an underground water leak and they couldn't have been more helpful.

In all fairness the service has always been very good with said lady, my only grumble was when i noticed premium was creeping higher, when asked to justify huge increase the premium was reduced back down swiftly. Also contents cover was hugely optimistic when i did full detailed audit to replace contents it dropped by 25,000.

Hi All
Sorry to keep this going but while out & about today I was informed by the owners of two cycles cut from a secure post outside Koala beach shop/ Mercadona this morning while up stair looking down, but taking eyes off for a coffee toilet break locks found outside the "casino" no one saw a thing.
For everyone info please see my insurance agents comments for ALL to be aware, and I have copied their reply,

There has to be a break in to an actual building such as a garage, substantial locked shed or the house itself. When within a shed or other outbuilding there is an upper limit of 10% of the contents with a maximum of 1.500 euros per item. The explanation is in section A7 which is about page 20 in your policy booklet. None of the companies we use will cover bikes for theft out of the house so I’m not able to offer you any better cover

Cheers
Jim
